Serious question for authors

I'm writing a story about a Muslim boy and Jewish girl(18+)

The boy is an Arab and the girl is French. Would the story be categorised as Inter-racial?

Most of Inter-racial stories I see on Lit are categorised in line of 19th century anthropological term:
Caucasoid(the whitie)-Negroid(the blackie)-Mongoroid(the chinkie)

I am confused.

Why is it so?

<A poor attempt at humour>
If a Cornish man butt rape a Tobagan man(i.e. Afro-Caribbean), whould it be termed: non-consent, Anal, Inter-racial, or Gay?
</A poor attempt at humour>

Request for Laurel:

Pigmies
Bushmen
Zulus
Vampyres
Barbie dolls

Special category for Atlantian apriciated.

Thanx.

Serious question

The first consideration is how you, the author, see the story. Is it primarily an interracial story from your perspective.

When you submit a story, you have the opportunity to choose the category. If you see it as an "Erotic Coupling" between two people, call it that way. If you are trying to illustrate a broader meeting between two races, call it that way.

I don't presume to know the criteria Laurel uses to define stories. I do know, if she disagrees with your choice, she will assign it to the category she determines best defines the story.

I have submitted a story as a "Group" only to have it posted in "Loving Wives". No big deal. She was right to change it. So, I do know category changes do happen.

You could use the "Contact Us" option to email Laurel. State your case for the category you want and find out ahead of time where she would place it.

Hope this helps.

Re

Thank you for taking your time to reply.

I posted the initial post after hearing that an Interracial story gets more hits than, say, a Romance one.

I was wondering if there was any merit in categorising a story 'Interracial' which, in my opinion, can be a Romance/Erotic-Coupling/Interracial.

Serious question

If your primary consideration is number of reads, incest is the hands down winner.

Seems like you may be getting ahead of yourself. Write your story, make it as good as you can, then worry about which category.

After that, if you still have a question about where to place it, try this. Look at the top stories in the categories you are considering. It is safe to assume those are what readers are looking for in that category.

Racial categories

Why not have a 'Heterosexual' category while you're about it? A lot of my stories feature heterosexual sex.

Yayatii, Axel is 100% right on this, write the story, don't worry about categorisation, you can change it later.

Why are you writing this story? to show cultural differences? Or to get people off on the "illicit" aspect of interracial relationships?

Are you French? Arab? If you really feel that you understand what might go on between a French Jewess and an Algerian or Moroccan Boy in France, you could have a really good story.
But whatever you do, please don't use interraciality as a form of titillation!

If you're Jewish, you consider yourself either as part of a culture, or a religion. Ethiopean Jews are black. Chinese (Kai-Feng) jews are oriental. Russian Jews are (literally) Caucasian.

Jews are not a race.

I'm nervous about 'interracial' as a category. Here in Britain we have a LOT of right-wing nationalism, but surprisingly little racism compared with say, France, Germany or Italy.

I'm a little unsure about the USA, even though I've lived there for a while -- I think they're less interracially inclined than here, because they're more tribal.
A lot of US expatriots remark on the amount of interracial couples they see here -- one of the few things I think the Brits are culturally advanced in!
In Britain we have the class system, which is way more important than your color or race in determining where you fit into society.

I've written a story with racially different people getting it together, but I'd find it WEIRD if that story was classed as Interracial.

PS My partner and I are "interracial".

Thank you Axel.
U r spot on. I haven't actually written the story yet. It's an idea in my head. I have the story-line more or less. It's just getting down to it is the problem.

Thank you Joe.
I'm aware that Jew is not a race. I got the idea for the story because there are so much negativity about Jew/Arab right now, and I don't lik it.

Yes, Britania is far torrerant about Interracial relationships than any other country I've been to. That's kool.

Arab boy and Jewish girl huh? How about science fiction? Anyway, it's already been done. It was called Romeo and Juliet. Pretty well done too, but the author never could get anyone to vote on the damn thing. :p

Thank you all for treating this thread in the mood originally intended.:)

I am not sure whether "interracial" gets more readers than other categories. I have four of my 37 stories with more than 10,000 readers, and while one is placed as interracial ("Race Relations") the other three are not and six interracial stories are well below that level (including one where the woman is black but the man's color is never mentioned, which I submitted as romance, I think).
What intrigues me is that the two stories with all-black characters have really low numbers (1400 and 1900 with an average for my stuff of 3770)

I'm still scratching my head at that one.
I'm not sure of the demography of lit visitors.
Supposing they be broadly devided into Caucasoid 33%, Negroid 33%, Mongoloid33%, then the low hits on your all-black character stories become rather disturbing.
I need more time to think about that.
