Series approval time: should I publish the first story now, or wait until series is approved?

Hello. I was wondering if I should wait until a series is approved to publish the first story, or publish the story now and move it later. I don't know if a series takes the same amount of time for approval as a story itself does, but I would like opinions on the story as soon as possible as it's quite a different style and I don't know if I will be continuing with it.

Publishing the first story is fine, but I wouldn't start publishing a series until you're either at a stopping point in the story or are 100% committed to continuing to write it.

Okay I understand, thank you. Please tell me, does it throw anything off to move a story into a series later? Like does it take the story out of any favorites lists it might be in already or some such?

Series and Stories are independent. Think of Series as organising folders you can move stories into (and out of). Nothing happens to ratings, view count etc

Publish the first story, do the Series stuff later, especially if you're not sure you'll continue.

There's an automated auto-series mechanism if you do this:

Story Title
Story Title Ch.02
Story Title Ch.03
etc.

You don't need to include Ch.01 in the first story title - you can if you know you'll continue, but the automatic joining up still works, if you don't.

This also works:

Story Title - Annie
Story Title - Bobbie
Story Title - Charlie

One thing, if you aren't going to number the series, please put an order list in each story or have something it spelled out somewhere obvious. There's nothing more annoying than trying to figure out the reading order when they aren't ordered as a series.

Too true. That's where the Series function is essential, where authors don't use chapter numbers - which is by far the easiest method, because the site does the joining up for you.

If you're creating a series manually rather than using the automated chapter system, my experience is that it's going to take some time to get approved. And people will complain in the comments :D
