I'm actually starting to get sad :(

I just want my story to be read and there's already so little stories in the genre I write in, but the second chapter to my series has been stuck in a limbo for weeks now. I know I have to be patient, Laurel's busy, don't expect an explanation etc etc. but it's starting to get disheartening now especially with my initial plan to release my story at once, but only decided to break down the release in chapters from advice from an editor.

At least if there's a problem with my submission I would want to be informed of it so I can work on it, but it's never even Sent Back, just Pending so I don't even know the problem or if it's even something I can work on.

I should've gone with my gut feeling and released the story at once instead of chapters, at last my readers would have received everything/I have published the complete thing without overthinking about what I did wrong.

Sadly, poor advice. However, the April Fools Day Contest has just ended, so normal service should be resumed. The queue always slows down at the end of a Contest.

No news is good news. If the story status hasn't changed, it's not been looked at yet, the conveyor belt is still running. There might not be a problem, nothing to fix. You're jumping the gun. Why don't you start writing your next story? It will be more productive than worrying about this one.

Yes. At least you know, next time. Again, stop thinking you've done something wrong. The story is in the queue, and that's all anyone can say.

I know don't overthink, be patient is the good advice but I'm still feeling upset about it.

I have three in the queue for approval, which I'm okay with, as it allowed me to go back and touch up one of those stories.

As long as you understand that making any changes to a story in the pending queue will knock it back to the bottom of the queue!

I guess I'm gonna leave it another week before deciding to do anything else with the story :(

You could try navigating to the pending story, to where you can edit it, and copy that link. That contains the unique ID# of the submission. Or, just right-click and copy the link to the story from your pending folder if you're paranoid about opening it at all. LOL Send that in a polite PM to Laurel asking if she could look into it for you. There's a bug that causes some submissions not to appear in her dashboard, and you may have fallen into that crack. The ID# should make it fairly easy for her to find it through other means.

Laurel can be found as the thread starter for virtually every thread in the Awards and Contests forum.

Assuming you're talking about the new series that only has Ch. 01 posted, damn near a month is well outside any reasonable expectation of lag time for a new, non audio/illustrated submission, no matter how many contests and challenges are in progress. Something's haywire.

Oh I already sent a PM to Laurel two days ago but I didn't know about copying the story ID :(

I don't want to seem rude by double messaging her but now I regret not knowing this sooner if that meant it could help me :(

I'd just keep it in mind for future reference if you've already sent a PM. The ID would be helpful, but she can track it down without it as well. She often doesn't answer these PMs with a reply, but rather with the submission going through the queue one way or another. It may take a couple of days, because she's undoubtedly digging through reams of messages every day on top of vetting all the stories we see, and the ones that don't make it to the page as well.

I just can't imagine being that busy and having to entertain a request from someone who just put more extra work without help (the ID). I try to be patient and polite, I even ran my message to another user first before sending them to Laurel to check if they're polite/appropriate enough but it still seems like I messed up again

The ID stuff is super helpful, because it’s short and also completely unambiguous. You can put it straight into the subject when you PM Laurel, and she won’t even have to open the message to act on it. Saves her time, which is invaluable considering the deluge of similar PMs she must be getting.

I regret it so much I messed up.
Stop tormenting yourself. You've done nothing wrong, and the PM you sent, hopefully, will break your story loose. Really, you've got to stop beating up on yourself. This happens, and it always gets sorted out in the end.

My suggestion: start writing your next story. You know, do something you can control!

I will try to relax and not overthink. I know I'm bad at regulating my feelings. I'm going to try start editing the fourth chapter since I submitted chapter three already, maybe, but it feels hollow knowing I would have finished and edited three chapters but none would already see the time of day.

It sucks (not the good kind, either) to be stuck in a holding pattern. Others are having the same issue. https://forum.literotica.com/threads/stuck-in-pending.1631128/#post-100756016

As for me, people have asked for me to drop the next Melody's Silence, but I'm in the same boat as other authors with three stories stuck in 'Pending' status. Unfortunately, I decided that since these weren't moving through the workflow, I would make changes to the MS story, which pushed it back into the queue. Oh well.
