United We Stand

Thanks for remembering. I find I'm effected more by the events of that day as the years go on. I quess running through all the different things that could have happened, but didn't because of choices I made at the time. I was very, very lucky that day. If your interested I have my story on my website http://Nicksaid.com under my 9 11 story.

I will offer extra prayers.

You have a good weekend

God Bless those families who lost loved ones that day, God bless out troops, and GOD BLESS AMERICA.

Babycake, I hope you had a good day.

I'm about to go outside and turn on a floodlight that will shine on an American Flag, which I have pinned to the front of my house. That light will stay on all night. Thanks to you starting this thread, It reminded me that tomorrow is the 11th. :rose:

This has got to be the only place on the WWW that erotica and nationalism can sit side by side........a observation not a critisism (sp)

A true enough observation though. Being a vet, I'll always support the troops who are on the ground. I feel for the dead and the survivors. At the same time, I know we've been lied to and led into this uneeded disaster.

How many more have to die for the three G's? Gold, God and Glory........

Support the troops, honor the dead, bring them home. Peace. :rose:

I pray for those who died and also all those who were left behind devestated by
lost of family members and friends. My SO was changed forever by living nearby
and many of her friends narrowly escaping. she even had the troubling experience of learning she met two of the terroists a few days before,as they
were visiting time square bars.
It is troubling that something so terrible was the reason for us to meet, fall in love
and become engaged to be married. When she continued to have nightmares
among many other problems,a friend told her of a place called LIT and their stories. She stumbled one day into chat and struck up a conversation with some hic frrom the midwest which caused both of our lives to be changed forever.
Im just so glad she was able to escape NYC and the many causes for her troubles,
even though some followed her,

If anything good came of that day, your and Jenny's love is it. I didn't know that's how it started. Thanks for sharing that my friend.

Thank you both for your kind words and wishes! We celebrate the third anniversary of her leaving NYC and us starting our lives together, next month.

What A Difference One Day Makes...In Memory of 9-11-01

On Monday we emailed jokes. On Tuesday we did not.

On Monday we thought that we were secure. On Tuesday we learned better.

On Monday we were talking about heroes as being athletes. On Tuesday we relearned who our heroes are.

On Monday we were irritated that our rebate checks had not arrived. On Tuesday we gave money away to people we had never met.

On Monday there were people fighting against praying in schools. On Tuesday you would have been hard pressed to find a school where someone was not praying.

On Monday people argued with their kids about picking up their room. On Tuesday the same people could not get home fast enough to hug their kids.

On Monday people were upset that they had to wait 6 minutes in a fast food drive through line. On Tuesday people didn't care about waiting up to 6 hours to give blood for the dying.

On Monday we waved our flags signifying our cultural diversity. On Tuesday we waved only the American flag.

On Monday there were people trying to separate each other by race, sex, color and creed. On Tuesday they were all holding hands.

On Monday we were men or women, black or white, old or young, rich or poor, gay or straight, Christian or non-Christian. On Tuesday we were Americans.

On Monday politicians argued about budget surpluses. On Tuesday grief stricken they sang 'God Bless America'.

On Monday the President was going to Florida to read to children. On Tuesday he returned to Washington to protect our children.

On Monday we had families. On Tuesday we had orphans.

On Monday people went to work as usual. On Tuesday they died.

On Monday people were fighting the 10 commandments on government property. On Tuesday the same people all said 'God help us all' while thinking 'Thou shall not kill'.

It is sadly ironic how it takes horrific events to place things into perspective, but it has. The lessons learned that week, the things we have taken for granted, the things that have been forgotten or overlooked, hopefully will never be forgotten again.

Noone could of said it better. I've heard people ask what the big deal is bout the flag, it's just a piece of cloth. Maybe that's true it is just cloth with colors on it. But what it represents is so much more. It represents everyone who was murdered that day whether they were in the planes or in the WTC. Let us not forget about those in the Pentagon as well. That piece of cloth represents are soldier who have died for what they believe in and those who continue to fight. Let us never forget about them. Thank a soldier whether you agree with war or not. Without them w couldn't have sites like this. God Bless America.

OM2, I have to agree, you really said it well. But sadly as time goes on we do forget, untill the next event puts things back in perspective.

INTO THE FIRE
(Bruce Springsteen)

The sky was falling and streaked with blood
I heard you calling me, then you disappeared into the dust
Up the stairs, into the fire
Up the stairs, into the fire
I need your kiss, but love and duty called you someplace higher
Somewhere up the stairs, into the fire

May your strength give us strength
May your faith give us faith
May your hope give us hope
May your love give us love

May your strength give us strength
May your faith give us faith
May your hope give us hope
May your love bring us love

You gave your love to see, in fields of red and autumn brown
You gave your love to me and lay your young body down
Up the stairs, into the fire
Up the stairs, into the fire
I need you near, but love and duty called you someplace higher
Somewhere up the stairs, into the fire

May your strength give us strength
May your faith give us faith
May your hope give us hope
May your love give us love

May your strength give us strength
May your faith give us faith
May your hope give us hope
May your love bring us love

May your strength give us strength
May your faith give us faith
May your hope give us hope
May your love bring us love

It was dark, too dark to see, you held me in the light you gave
You lay your hand on me
Then walked into the darkness of your smoky grave
Up the stairs, into the fire
Up the stairs, into the fire
I need your kiss, but love and duty called you someplace higher
Somewhere up the stairs, into the fire

May your strength give us strength
May your faith give us faith
May your hope give us hope
May your love bring us love...

May your love bring us love

Lest we forget

YOU'RE MISSING
(Bruce Springsteen)

Shirts in the closet, shoes in the hall
Mama's in the kitchen, baby and all
Everything is everything
Everything is everything
But you're missing

Coffee cups on the counter, jackets on the chair
Papers on the doorstep, but you're not there
Everything is everything
Everything is everything
But you're missing

Pictures on the nightstand, TV's on in the den
Your house is waiting, your house is waiting
For you to walk in, for you to walk in
But you're missing, you're missing You're missing when I shut out the lights
You're missing, when I close my eyes
You're missing, when I see the sun rise
You're missing

Children are asking if it's alright
Will you be in our arms tonight?

Morning is morning, the evening falls I got
Too much room in my bed, too many phone calls
How's everything, everything?
Everything, everything
You're missing, you're missing

God's drifting in heaven, devil's in the mailbox
I got dust on my shoes, nothing but teardrops

Dad's Poem

Her hair was up in a pony tail,
her favorite dress tied with a bow.
Today was Daddy's Day at school,
and she couldn't wait to go.

But her mommy tried to tell her,
that she probably should stay home.
Why the kids might not understand,
if she went to school alone.

But she was not afraid;
she knew just what to say.
What to tell her classmates
of why he wasn't there today.

But still her mother worried,
for her to face this day alone
And that was why once again,
she tried to keep her daughter home.

But the little girl went to school
eager to tell them all.
About a dad she never sees
a dad who never calls.

There were daddies along the wall in back,
for everyone to meet.
Children squirming impatiently,
anxious in their seats

One by one the teacher called
a student from the class.
To introduce their daddy,
as seconds slowly passed.

At last the teacher called her name,
every child turned to stare.
Each of them was searching,
a man who wasn't there.

"Where's her daddy today?"
she heard a boy call out.
"She probably doesn't have one,"
another student dared to shout.

And from somewhere near the back,
she heard a daddy say,
"Looks like another deadbeat dad,
too busy to waste his day."

The words did not offend her,
as she smiled up at her Mom.
And looked back at her teacher,
who told her to go on.

And with hands behind her back,
slowly she began to speak.
And out from the mouth of a child,
came words incredibly unique.

"My Daddy couldn't be here,
because he lives so far away.
But I know he wishes he could be,
since this is such a special day."

"And though you cannot meet him,
I wanted you to know.
All about my daddy,
and how much he loves me so."

"He loved to tell me stories
he taught me to ride my bike.
He surprised me with pink roses,
and taught me how to fly a kite."

"We used to share fudge sundaes,
and ice cream in a cone.
And though you cannot see him.
I'm not standing here alone."

"Cause my daddy's always with me,
even though we are apart
I know because he told me,
he's forever in my heart"

With that, her little hand reached up,
and lay across her chest.
Feeling her own heartbeat,
beneath her favorite dress.

And from somewhere here in the crowd of dads,
her mother stood in tears.
Proudly watching her daughter,
who was wise beyond her years.

For she stood up for the love
of a man not in her sight
Doing what was best for her,
doing what was right.

And when she dropped her hand back down,
staring straight into the crowd.
She finished with a voice so soft,
but its message clear and loud

"I love my daddy very much,
he's my shining star.
And if he could, he'd be here,
but heaven's just too far "

"You see he was a policeman
and died just thirty six months this year
when the airplanes hit the towers
and taught Americans to fear."

"But sometimes when I close my eyes,
it's like he never went away."
And then she closed her eyes,
and saw him there that day.

And to her mothers amazement,
she witnessed with surprise
A room full of daddies and children,
all starting to close their eyes.

Who knows what they saw before them,
who knows what they felt inside.
Perhaps for merely a second,
they saw him at her side.

"I know you're with me Daddy,"
to the silence she called out.
And what happened next made believers,
of those once filled with doubt.

Not one in that room could explain it,
for each of their eyes had been closed.
But there on the desk beside her,
was a fragrant long-stemmed pink rose.

And a child was blessed, if only for a moment,
by the love of her shining star.
And given the gift of believing,
that heaven is never too far.

They say it takes a minute to find a special
person, an hour to appreciate them,
a day to love them, but then an entire
life to forget them.

Take the time...to live and to love.
Until eternity. God bless

I've read that b4 and it always touches my heart. Thank you for sharing.

Do not take for granted the things closest to your heart.

Cling to them as you would your life, for without them,
life is meaningless.

Elizabeth, that was beautiful. Thanks for taking the time to fine it. I had to travel to Washington D.C. today and rereading the 9-11 stories touched me.
The first two years I could not and would return to the site. The third year by mistake I got on the wrong Path train from Newark, New Jersey and it took me straight into ground zero. It may have been destiny as well because it made me deal with alot of feelings. This year I read the stories again and this time for the first time tears. It didn't matter I was on the train heading to Washington I just let them come.

Babycake, thanks again for starting this thread. I know it helped me. :rose:

OM2, I hope you and Jenny are doing okay. I'm glad you shared as well.

Thanks to all that posted. I know it was Babycakes thread, but all your responses helped me as well.

well if nothing else here brought tears to my eyes, this certainly would... and did. :rose:

Hope I don't put anyone to sleep, and I'm not good at words

I did not get to see this thread for I was busy this whole weekend. My heart goes out to each & everyone who's life's were affected by 9/11.....I know it has touched us all, and that sadness will always remain in our hearts forever...I would like to share with you all, how 911 has changed me...In August of 2002, my oldest son went away to boot camp at the age of 19, this was his first time ever being away from home, how scared I was for him knowing what they put them through. Well after 4 months in December, we flew to Fort Leonard Wood to see him graduate. He graduated with many extra ribbons & medals....No more then two weeks after he came home,he got a phone call...I still remember the day, December, 19th. 2002. Asking him if he would volunteer, for they needed Military Police. A unit from MA was going to be deployed sometime in January, well he did volunteer, and on January 17, 2003.....We were seeing him off to war. No words can really explain my feelings that day. Watching & knowing all the fears, these young men and woman had. Yet at the same time how proud they all were, to serve their country......The Family's saying goodbye, not knowing if this were there last...My son was sent to Afghanistan, where he served 8 months...Those were the longest 8 months of my life...When he came home, I seen, how this scared young boy, had turned into this strong brave man....I was happy to have him home, and so proud of him, knowing that he has been through more in his young age, then most would in a lifetime. He was home with us 16 months, then again volunteered to join a unit that was already serving in Iraq...I can remember his words, telling me he wanted to go. For if he did not volunteer, they would pick others who were married and had young chilgren. He said "Ma they have a husband or wife and kids I have to go. Take me, not them.".. " I'll be ok Ma don't worry".....He left this past Mother's Day, and again I can not explain my feeling, I was being brave for him, yet I was falling apart inside. It has been 4 months now, and on this Sept 11, we had a bike run in Memory of 911, and to Honor all the troops, past & present ....during the event I got a call from my son in Iraq, as the band stopped playing right away, then over the microphone, so my son & his platoon could hear...They thanked his unit and told them TO KICK ASS.....hundreds of people stood up & clapped, yelled, they played a song so they could hear, it was a very special moment for me, with tears running down my face..So you see this is how 911 has changed my life,We will never forget,,,,,,,Here is a song and the words are so true!!!! I hear people saying we don't need this war
I say there's some things worth fighting for
What about our freedom and this piece of ground?
We didn't get to keep 'em by backing down
They say we don't realize the mess we're getting in
Before you start preaching
Let me ask you this my friend

CHORUS 1
Have you forgotten how it felt that day
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away?
Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
We had neighbors still inside
Going through a living hell
And you say we shouldn't worry 'bout Bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

They took all the footage off my T.V.
Said it's too disturbing for you and me
It'll just breed anger that's what the experts say
If it was up to me I'd show it every day
Some say this country's just out looking for a fight
After 9/11 man I'd have to say that's right

CHORUS 1
Have you forgotten how it felt that day
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away?
Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
We had neighbors still inside
Going through a living hell
And we vowed to get the ones behind Bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

I've been there with the soldiers
Who've gone away to war
And you can bet that they remember
Just what they're fighting for

CHORUS 2
Have you forgotten all the people killed?
Yes, some went down like heroes in that Pennsylvania field
Have you forgotten about our Pentagon?
All the loved ones that we lost
And those left to carry on
Don't you tell me not to worry 'bout Bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

Have you forgotten?
Have you forgotten?
