Rather than making excuses, sitting on her butt and being a nuisance, she is working her way up

What can she do next? Keep working and getting business experienced, get a Masters part-time (avoiding costly loans) in some area where jobs are plentiful or plan out her own business.

When I got out of college, this is what I did. It was during a recession, so I took crap jobs for low pay. I went from minimum wage in Retail, to 29K, went back to school, worked my way up, and now I make 120K a year.

If I sat around blaming some nebulous entity, like "The Rich", I would be on the bottom and begging the government for more welfare.

That's easy for you to say. You got out there and worked. That kind of thing is beneath those who would rather sit on their butt and be a nuisance.

Work is a four-letter word, yet there is much to be said for the Puritan work ethic.

I missed something on understanding the entitlement mentality.

I missed something on understanding the entitlement mentality.

It's this:

You're born in the richest country in history therefore it can afford to educate you, at the very least, as well as shelter the homeless, feed the poor, eliminate excess wealth, maintain a pristine environment, eliminate bullying, welcome unlimited new citizens in search of a better life, create good jobs, provide health care, free school lunches, a drug-free environment, eliminate gun violence, put science at the forefront, prevent religion in the public view, provide Islam with foot baths and prayer rooms, police pro athletics, ensure food safety, regulate product safety, build roads, maintain infrastructure, fund the UN, IMF, NATO...,

Great story. :)

There was one thing missing from the story though, an error of omission or perhaps not. No mention was made of a government loan for the college education. Perhaps the individual paid their own way through school (smart if they did) rather than run up a huge debt with compound interest.

I couldn't help but note how many of the 'occupiers' made a point of bringing up their huge government loan to pay for their education. Obviously there was something lacking in their secondary education background, like how compound interest works, particularly with deferred payments on the principle. (Avoiding any discussion here of having run up that huge debt obtaining an absolutely worthless degree.)

Yeah buddy, gub'mint is your friend.

Kinda makes you want the ability for space travel, bundle them all up and send them out as the advance scout party just as in Hitchhikers Guide to the Universe.

Based on my experiences in the work world Queer is all that matters. These days being a Nigga aint enough, you gotta be a Queer Nigga. THAT or you gotta work in a new industry the bureaucrats dont know about.

Good times are right around the corner. Just a few more years of tax cuts to the Job Creators, and they will be creating jobs right and left!

What we're doing in America is attempting to re-create one of the old communist states of the Cold War Era.

If you can graduate Ivy League you get a fast track government, wall street, or MSM gig; vacations in Maui; a home in the Hamptons.

If you can graduate State U you get a fast track government, main street, or FOX franchise gig; vacations at Disney World; a home beside a fairway.

The rest quit PS99, clerk at QUICKIE MART, and rent by the week at a trailer park.

I really do love American politics. People calling for an end to buying politicians and crony capitalism are spongers and layabouts. I'll laugh when your country erupts.

No, they say that so they can sound like they have a lofty, noble purpose.

A month ago, Chicago Board of Trade employees (office workers, not CEO's) dumped McDonald applications on the Occupiers heads, suggesting they get off there high horse and work for a living. The Occupiers, arrogant as they are, found the suggestion that they take a hard job offensive.

That is truly an inspring story of a woman who went to work at Walmart and then Walgreens.

You know, I remember in a History lesson that it was the OP's attitude of hike your boot-lace up and go work that Hoover adopted to solve the depression. As far as I remember, he didnt solve it.

You don't remember very well.

Good for you Gia....I always figured you take what you can get, then work from there.

The kids who don't want to work, blame the rich.....You know how it is "Blame someone else"

A few intresting facts about the Capitalist system you seem to have neglected.

1) Its not that these people are lazy. Indeed, most of the people in the movement actually have jobs, and a majority of those who don't are activily try to find them. The issue is that there isen't enough jobs PERIOD. Even if every vacent job postion in the country where filled right now, unemployement would still be over 5%. Companies are sitting on record profits, and quite frankly aren't hiring. In a Capitalist system, the Capitalist needs to MAKE the job before the unemployeed can FILL it.

2) Most unemployeed would LOVE to work an minimum wage job. The issue? People with Bachalors and 5+ years of work experence are out their competing with collage kids for the jobs collage kids traditionally filled because the capital owners (aka. "The Rich") cut their jobs. So, the collage kids CAN'T compete, because they haven't had the time to build up the experence. So, they go for the jobs high schoolers traditionally filled, so now they can't compete. And, when the economy finnaly picks back up, they won't be able to get a job because people will for the "proper age group".

3) Good for you, you're a success story. I wish you nothing but congratulations. However, their are people who worked just as hard as you, but because of sheer bad luck, personality, or (depending on when you came out of collage) a greater or lesser degree of Affermative Action or "Equal Oppretunity" laws, diden't suceed. Not everybody is going to be as lucky as you; not everything that happens to you is a direct result of your own effort. Ask the thousands of contruction workers who built so many houses with great quality and skill, but are now out of a job due to the fault of lenders and borrowers, or the hard-working floor workers at any company who loses income thanks to a failed bussiness decision at the CEO level or a bad advertisement campaign by the advertising department. Nearly everything that happens to you is a result of somebody else's actions; its how you react to it that you have control over.

And on this, most those who where unemployeed have been filling out similer applications for months now, to no result. Again they WANT to work, just ask any of them instead of going with pre-conceived notions. They took it as an insult because you're telling them to beat their head against the same wall over and over again. They've been dealing with job applications for months now, and filled out their fair share, and can get plenty. Now, an offer for a actual mcdonalds job on the other hand...

I was, I got out, finished my degree, and had a crap time getting started in the Real World. I didn't blame Bill Gates and Michael Jordon. There was no one to blame. It was just the circumstance I found myself in.
