Well, I finally did it. I finally purchased an automobile that will enable me to get from point A to point B with speed and style.

What, you ask? Did EBW leave behind his fervent Anti-Automobile beliefs to join the ranks of those of you who poison our fair planet? Huzzah! Never! The car I purchased is an Electric one. Clean and safe and it apparently actually drives.

Sure they built the thing into an ugly old Renault but the Dealer assures me that the thing will run.

My gawd...A rebuilt french electric car. I admire your dedication to the environment and will say a prayer for you that the thing runs for more than a week dude.

Actually, I'll ask Todd to say a prayer for you.

:D

Hey, for the scratch I shelled out that thing had better work for at least a couple of months.

Actually there's a company in france that makes car's that run on compressed air, pretty cool if you ask me, I'd love to see more of those on the roads.

These things only take three minutes to recharge or you can trickle recharge them overnight for about £1 using the onboard compressor, pretty neat eh.

BTW if your interested I have their URL.

Thanks but I'm spoken for. I own an auto. It's green too! How boss is that? And it has an 80 km range!!! I can almost drive to my Mom's house :)

80km of extension cable !
Hell that must take some winding in !

EBW, you rock! You're my hero for the day. I saw one of those Honda electro-hybrids on the street the other day and they are cool looking cars. What kind did you get?

It's a modified 60's Renault that has the same engine as their Clio. Very cool :)

um....not to rain on your parade but....

how do they make the electricity?

solar?

wind?

Coal?

Nuclear?

Don't you know that the dealer will tell you anything to get you to buy their product?
My dealer told me that my Explorer had the top of the line Firestone tires......LOL

EBW, I am glad you opted for the Electric over gas car but now I am going to be a bummer and a drag, by pointing out that most people who would own an electric car are doing no better for the environment than gas cars.

The Electricity you use to run your car. How was it generated?

That is the important part..

If the electric company uses coal, which is the most common (like 80% of all energy generated comes from coal) to generate your electricity, than the CO 2 emmissions are just as damaging to the environment. Fossil fuels are Fossile fuels.
If you have Hydroelectric, Solar, ect... than you are a really good boy.

Now, when they get this Hydrogen run car shit underway, then the environment will be spared. :)

Yes and no. With coal-fueled cars, you have a big dirty power plant and hundreds of thousands of gas-fueled cars emitting poisons into the air. With electric-fueled cars, you have a dirty power plant and hundreds of thousands of non-polluting vehicles emitting next to nothing into the air. Smog problems in cities aren't caused by power plants - they're caused by cars.

It's not THE solution, but it's a step in the right direction - and every step that helps to eliminate pollution while at the same time maintaining our standard of living is a good step.

Don't believe the hype: conservation and comfortable living can go hand in hand. In fact, if we want your great-grandkids to live comfortably, we'd better start finding alternative energy sources now. That's the fact, Jack.

We could all move to only warm areas of the world, ban cold areas, then use motorcycles, I prefer Harleys in fact I got married on one, and require very little clothing so that we could save energy on making them. We could require all kinds of fun things, It could be interesting. I am way too tired from my first hangover day in years.

Why would they care about their children, Laurel? Hell, all most so-called "conservatives" want is governement handouts AND a big, fat tax cut. After all, that what "W" has promised. The same way Reagan did it.

Why was welfare cut in two years, but farm subsidies phased out over seven years?

How to send your unwanted tax refund back

Better yet, rather than send it to the Government, you can donate it to the political party of your choice.

Then that means you are accepting that evil tax cut refund, stanf up on your principle and sen that bacj to the evil republicans ans let them know how much you loathe thier malicious intents. Anything else would be selling out and agreeing that you like the tax cut and wish for it to continue.

Doesn't Canada have some political dirty laundry you could air Todd?

You shoulda got the Honda, in my opinion. It's easier to get fixed and the hybrid engine would give you the ability to leave town with it, should you so desire. Cheaper too.

Most electric power comes from coal or diesel right now. We've got a buncha hydroelectrics going on, but don't kid yourself into thinking it's safer environmentally. Dams do icky things to the area, most common is the buildup of silt and rising of the watertable. Nukes are another kettle of fish. Outside of the plant they're the cleanest thing we got cause the waste product is hot water. Inside the plant you have that core with the half life of forever.

According to my fatherinlaw, who works the nukes, there is a method for rending the core into a non-radioactive rod again, it just costs too much for the electic companies who own the nukes to consider it feasible. Chalk on up for the big guy.

Ya want electicity, it has to be generated somehow.

Wrong. BTW, it was the Democrats who added the refund bit into the tax bill. The GOP was against it.

Yeah but would any of you americans even have a clue if I started naming names of who was causght sleeping with whom in cnaada politics. Or if the Other side of the oceans started talking about thier political situation.

Highly doubtful that is why politics caters to the lowest to the lowest common denominator, american Politics, cause what ever happens there screws the rest of the planet.
