self conscious writing question

I yet you've devoted paragraphs to tearing strips of me for my spelling.

No, I tore strips from you because of your hard headedness, your arrogance, your ignorance, your willingness to take others down the path of ignorance with you--so for your attitude.

And I did respond to your original question, and I didn't have to. No one owes you responses.

I've done this a few times, it just doesn't seem to work. I can still see spell check highlighting my english spelling as a mistake and I know for all the stuff I can see there must also be lots of stuff I'm missing. I must remember when I'm actually around someone who knows mac books to ask them too take a look.

K, I use the default US English, but this may or may not help. In Word, I went to the Tools menu, scrolled down to Language..., clicked and got the following menu with four English options. In the Tools menu there's also a Dictionary option, but I did not go there. You might also find it useful to scroll through umpteen hundreds options under the Preferences - I've found lots of useful things I can set or unset there, when I've had the patience for it. I've not reset Word and tried it... You might need to quit out of Word and reopen it for the changes to take effect.

If you have questions, PM me. Happy to help. Not sure what my version of Word is - either 2011 or 2014.

One additional and important tip: Highlight all your text when you switch languages, otherwise whatever was not highlighted won't change. There's more to it than just that (including stuff I don't know, lots of that), but highlighting everything will definitely improve your chances of success.

looking in the mirror again?

WTF?

Mate, do you ever stop and read what you write?

I cannot believe anybody would say this to somebody else, ever... But I guess, you're not just "anybody" are you?

Never mind, legerdemer seems to have come up with a better idea.

Well, going back to the original post, I'm putting my vote in for either way being correct. If you put that kind of stuff in unconsciously, it's become your style, then that's your style. It may be superfluous, but it isn't wrong. I wouldn't worry over it overmuch.
