From looking at the Gun and Martial Art threads on the BB, their seems to be a healthy assortment of Gun people here.

So, whats in your holster these days? Speaking of which, what kind of leather or kydex do you use?

I usualy go with a Glock 26 or a J-frame S&W .38. I carry is a forbus kydex holster, but thats gonna change soon, hopefuly to bladetech or a de santis if de santis makes kydex.

Backing those up is an assortment of edged weapons. Usualy a spyderco and an emerson knife.

Sometime if feeling frisky, a RJ Martin fixed blade for IWB carry.

Ok, whats sitting in your pants? (Firearm-wise people...)

These days

Abslutely nothing.

In the UK you were never allowed to carry, except when going
to or from an approved range or gunshop.

Nowadays you're not even allowed to own a handgun.

Sucks.

I used to carry anything from my Glock 21 down to a little .380, but I don't usually carry concealed anymore; it just isn't that necessary as I don't really encounter the threats that much. Granted, such threats can creep up on you when you least expect it, but I just don't think it is worth the hassle.

When I do carry anymore it is usually something very small and light; lately it has been a little Beretta .22 LR. When I travel, and it makes sense, I carry the Beretta and/or my Taurus .357 in luggage or in the vehicle. But that is mostly for when I am in the woods or somewhere out of the way.

A SuperSoaker 3000.

What? I have a freaking puppy, nothing says "DON'T EAT THE FUCKING COUCH!!!!!" like a SuperSoaker.

I don't carry firearms around, that's just rather dumb. The StudMuffin-- um, not going there.

I sleep with a Mossberg.

It it my sincere hope that you sleep with the safety on when you go to sleep.

If it goes off, that could be a mess...

As to it being stupid to carry a weapon, well, you can not make an appointment to have an emergency.

No you can't, but the thing is that in most states it's against the law to use lethal force outside of your own home to protect anything but your life. There's the rub and where people with less sense than firepower start shooting carjackers. A gun isn't for intimidation, it's for deadly force.

I've been sleeping with the Mossberg for about 12 years now on and off. I've got it covered.

These days I carry my S & W 9 MM most of the time, however on occasion I do carry my .44.......though I must say I carry the 9 most of the time.

I do have a permit to carry concealed and have taken many courses. I guess I carry mine for my personal safety due to some of the locales I goto and some of the locals and or/areas I might drive in/around.

Though most people don't know I am carrying. Which is fine by me. I don't carry it to be a "badass" or anything, I carry it for my protection and my protection only ~ not to "showoff" or anything.

I agree on all counts with your assertions, but I do not agree with your previously stated conclusion that carrying firearms around is "dumb".

First, I agree with your assessment of the laws - and I agree with the sentiment behind those laws; the only good reason to use lethal force is when lethal force is offered. I would not hesitate to defend property by calling people on their actions, but I am not going to shoot someone over them stealing the tires off my car (unless that would strand me in the middle of nowhere). I may put myself between them and my property and then use my firearm if they make a threatening move - but that is to protect me. A fine distinction yes, but a distinction nonetheless.

I also agree that a firearm is not for intimidation, but at the same time just the presence of firearm has prevented crime quite a bit more often than the actual use of a firearm (read Kleck's study on the issues).

Even so, it is not dumb to carry a firearm. I use to carry firearms quite frequently, and still do from time to time, and while I do some dumb things (like ride my bike way too fast too often), this is not one of them. It is dumb to carry a firearm without proper training and mindset, but that is a qualified statement whereas your statement was not qualified.

For years I carried hand cannons like a 357 or 44............Nowadays I carry a 22 Beretta or SW 380.......Ya learn you can kill with a smaller gun. All I want to do is protect myself and shop not kill 12 folks behind them............

The justification for lethal force in defence of property is not the property itself, but the threat used to take it.

If I approach you and say "give me your money or I'll egg your car" you would not be jusified in using lethal force to protect your property, cash or car.
The threat is not to the point where society will deem it necessary for you to take any agressive action against the Egger.

If someone approaches you and says "give me your $$ or I will shoot/knife/beat you and kill you" then assuming you reasonabley believe that the threat is credible, You would be justified in using lethat force not to protect your $$ but to protect yourself. The fact that you also saved your $$ is gravy.

The lawful use of lethat force outside your home sometimes involves the retreat doctrine. That is, the state wants you to try to avoid combat if you can escape with complete safety.

If you would be exposing yourself to further danger in that situation by attempting to leave without neutralising the iminent threat, you are not obligated to retreat.

If, however, you can just get into your car and drive away from the guy chalanging you, DRIVE OFF.

That in a nutshell is the retreat doctrine.

If someone is saying to you "give me your car or i will hurt you", well dam, thats usualy what the law calls a threat of death or great bodily harm. Thats usualy when, if the carjacker has a weapon or it appears that he is drawing one, You can kill him, and call that a justifiable shoot.

In that situation how are you supposed to retreat??

9mm bullet travel at 1200 feet per second, I know my ford can't accelerate that fast.

Chucks, model 590 or 390? I have played with S&W 9mm pistols at the S&W academy. I'll pass on them. If its a sigma, please, get a glock. Sorry, I just have to comment. :p
