Hi all. I'm new here, but I've been role playing for a long time elsewhere. Just wanted you to know I'm not a newbie.
"Alien Apocalypse": A combined RP/game.
In the near future, a massive alien space craft crash lands on Earth. In just weeks, an alien virus will wipe out most of humanity. Ironically, a human virus will do the same to the aliens.
On a resort island, a small percentage of the vacationers and staff -- just like the population at large -- discover that they are immune to the alien virus. Not only that, but as they spend time with one another, they begin to "hear" one another's thoughts. (OOC: This solves the whole "Hey, how did you know what I was thinking?" secrecy issue.)
These survivors find themselves facing decisions on what to do, from whether to stay on the island where it is currently safe but where food and -- oh no! -- booze will soon run out; to whether or not to keep others who try to come to the island off, for fear that they might infect the vacationers; to ... well, lots more.
There will be role playing, of course, but a unique element of the story will be the "game play". Similar to Dungeons and Dragons or any of a number of other "dice rolling" type role play games, characters will find themselves on an adventure that could bring them "resources" or -- if they act stupidly -- bring them death.
I will use an element of randomization -- you'll have to trust that I am truly rolling dice here -- but often I will base results on how smart or ingenious or brave or selfless a character acted.
I'm making this up on the fly, so I expect their to be hiccups and disagreements. We will deal with both in the best way possible. Just know that I am fair with my "punishments": no character will be killed off without the writer being warned that they are taking dangerous risks. If ever you think I have been unfair, don't hesitate to PM me.
I will explain more later, if I get any interest in the idea.
