"Arched brows", "narrowed eyes", "shrugged", etc. Better than describing the emotion, they connect with the reader on a more visceral level, IMO. Not that I necessarily agree with the "show, don't tell" axiom, but here I believe it holds true. Many times I'm looking for a particular emotion or reaction to a situation, and feel like I'm bungling the describing action.
Does anyone have a resource that lists these out, at least as suggestions? E.g. surprised = "eyes wide, he drew back"; angry = "her eyes narrowed...", and so forth.
