I’m rather new to Literotica, but I’ve already posted a couple stories onto the site. They are both serials, and both are in need of editors. However, one in particular (this one in fact - https://www.literotica.com/s/blue-grey ) has inspired this post as I am most focused on it at the moment.
Common themes will include m/m romance and sex, and since the setting is a private LGBT+ school m/m means cis and transmen alike. Domination/submission, athletes, exhibitionism/voyeurism, rough and passionate sex, interracial, cross-generational, and possible dubious consent (if the story goes where I think it’s going). If true violence occurs in my writing, just as a general aside, it will not be sexualized. Instead it will be a plot device and, depending on the gravity of the scene, never gratuitous. Although in Blue-Grey specifically, it shouldn't come up.
I just googled the average number of words for a chapter, and the answer is apparently 2500 words. For my purposes, I’m going to say each chapter will range from 3000 – 4500 words. That’s sheer guesswork, however, and I fully expect them to have more or less in some cases. To give you an idea of what you’re working with, the first chapter of Blue-Grey was 4283 words.
As for what I’m looking for in an editor, I’m most interested in having someone who can spot the glaring and stupid mistakes I’m prone to leaving in my final drafts. Like most people, I have a hard time finding and rooting out my own mistakes, so a fresh set of eyes will be boundlessly beneficial to me. Someone whose grasp of grammar and language surpass mine, ideally. That’s the most important part, but if you’re willing to talk about structure and characterization I will be most appreciative. It’s always helpful to have someone capable of giving insightful critiques, as it can only help your writing improve in the end!
I hope this is enough information, but if more is needed simply let me know. I look forward to working with you.
