Melody was a girl that everyone thought was pretty, but due to the label they gave her at school for being a nerd she was always alone. Mel had it hard growing up, her parents had to work two jobs to give their daughter what she needed. In doing so she spent more time with a babysitter then with her own parents. She hated it growing up, but once she was in her late teens she respected what they were doing for her. Still hating it but she stopped complaining about it, once she turned fifteen she no longer needed a sitter. Because of the two jobs her parents had, she had been getting money to buy what she wanted. Or her parents would buy her equipment she needed to be able to express her talent. Which she didn't do very much and that was because she was very shy. Melody tried so damn hard to not be mousy but it didn't work out very well. Melody was a wonderful kind of girl, she had heard people call her beautiful but she wasn't the kind of person to be an ass about it. Due to her intelligence she managed to skip several years, and by the time she was sixteen she graduated. Melody had looked into colleges since she was a freshmen. She didn't know what she wanted to do with herself.
While she lived in her parents house she had met a guy who lived right by her, he was very handsome and older then her. He seemed to always be a gentlemen which was nice to see. They met when she was fourteen years old, and she befriended him quickly. Her parents had no issue with her having a much older man for a friend. Since he lived across the street her parents didn't know him, but her parents knew his father and mother. No one had a problem with anyone, but what Melody liked about Xavier is he didn't judge, and she felt so comfortable with him it wasn't funny. They went for walks, went for dinner, went to the movies. They did stuff married people had or what boyfriend/girlfriend relationships did. It was something she cherish but she learned to never take life or people for granted and would never do that when it came to a job either. But it was a very good thing that they had a nice relationship. Because she would need him. when she turned seventeen her parents took her to celebrate her 17th birthday. They had front row seats to the Broadway show phantom of the opera. She had loved every single moment of it.
Before she knew it the show was over and she left with a huge grin on her face. When they left and got into the car she was humming one song from the show. Everything seemed perfect and she buckled up in the back, waiting for the car to turn on since it was a chilly night. Her father turned the lights on and put the turn signal to the left, her father looked and saw nothing. But at he pulled out of the parking space, she saw something Melody would never forget, she saw a car coming down, the driver was going sixty miles in a 20 mile zone. she tried to say something to her parents. But it didn't happen, before she knew it. Seconds before the driver hit them straight on, everything went silent. The only thing she could hear was her breathing and her heart beat. She closed her eyes and the car hit their car so damn hard, the car was moved back five feet. When she opened up her eyes, she saw cuts and and blood on her. But when she looked up at her parents, her eyes showed instant shock and managed to crawl out of the car. She slowly stood up and went to check on her parents. Sadly the wounds were to bad and they were dead, she walked to the curb and collapsed onto her knees. People came to the scene and Melody was in sever shock.
After they secured the scene they took her to the hospital because she wasn't saying anything, she had this blank stare and responded to no one. Once at the hospital they gave her some Valium to hopefully help her come around, they tried asking if she had family and how to get a hold of them. But she said nothing, they looked through her jeans and found a cell phone. The nurse found Xavier's number and called them in, she started to come around when he came in and sat before her. She smiled weakly as he took her hand in both his, she sat up and hugged him, crying into his shoulder. He held her until she fell asleep in his arms, she was let go first thing in the morning and he took her home. He took her to his place and he watched her for a while, it didn't take her long to bounce back and once she was better he told her he wanted to go into the army. He was doing it because she was going into college soon, and she was much better and he felt comfortable she would be okay. Melody didn't like it in the least because if he died as well, she would be alone again. But she accepted his choice not that she had a choice of course.
She dreaded watching him leave a bunch of different shit was always on her mind. Melody was scared she would loose him on top of loosing her family, which happened two months ago. But she respected it because she just didn't want to loose the guy she was having feelings for. Since he was 37 and she was 20 there was some what of a big age difference but she didn't care. Before he left he gave her two thousand dollars, just in case god for bid something happens. But she stopped complain on the day he was off to leave she took his car and took him to the airport. Walking beside him he had only a few minutes to talk which felt like they only had seconds. Everything was really nice and it was a powerful feeling, when he was told to board she hugged him and kissed his cheek. When he kissed her cheek she smiled and waved to him. Once he vanished she stayed long enough to see his plane take off, she just wanted to be sure it didn't blow up. She turned and went back home, the funny thing was she noticed a package outside on the door step. Walking up to the door she looked down and noticed it was fro her college. Picking it up and went inside sitting on her couch.
Melody read the letter and was jumping around the house happy as all hell, she knew that Xavier was going to be happy for her, this she knew. She packed up her things from her home and she managed to get a hold of him via skype online. She told him and he was truly happy for her. Because she was always busy at school time seemed to go by very fast, she missed Xavier very much since he was the only one she had left. With her parents and grandparents dead she had no one, no aunts or uncles. But one day about a year later she was talking to Xavier on skype and as they talked they both heard a loud sound outside his tent, she didn't know what was going on but soon other military personal came running into the tent he was in. And before she knew it she heard something about missiles. "Xavier!" She yelled at him, because she called for him he turned his head looking at her, a weak smile on his face. "No...." Because of the look she knew, before he could say anything the feed got cut. "NO" She screamed at the black screen. Getting up she was upset and she called the military demanding for some answers, but no one knew anything.
She couldn't think about much, she drowned herself from head to toe in her music. Her pain and fear could be heard in everything she played. It took six months before she knew what was going on with him, she got a call from him saying he was coming back and he needed her to pick him up. She did that quickly she grabbed her jacket and her bag putting her phone in it. She had no idea what was to await her. She got there early she asked someone at the airport when his plane was due to touch town. She paced back and forth nervous as hell, she was so very happy he had come home. After what felt like years she heard tapping behind her, picking up her head and turned her head and what she saw she didn't have a word for how she felt. "Xavier?" She walked up to him, her ankle boots making it easy for him to hear her coming. She placed her arm through his and helped him into the car, she got to the driver side and drove off. She turned on the radio unsure of what was on his mind and she didn't know what to do or say to him, what could she possible say. She placed her right hand on his and held his hand, squeezing it lovingly.
"I'm glad your home...I am so sorry Xavier. Why does bad shit always happen to good people?" She sighed.
