Katherine hesitated, her hand raised as she was about to knock on the door. She took another glance at her outfit, wondering if what she is wearing is appropriate. She can still remember clearly her conversation with Melanie, one of her closest friends. She had shyly confessed to Melanie her decision to join a dating service.

After having been widowed at a young age, Katherine had thrown herself at her work, building the business that she and her now deceased husband had dreamed of having. Now, with the business flourishing, she started to feel twinges of loneliness and the desire for companionship, for passion, for romance began to kindle in her heart.

Melanie was all gungho about the idea, almost giddy with joy at the idea of her dear friend finding someone special. While talking, Katherine’s eyes landed on some framed pictures on the wall. They were not there before - images of Melanie laughing, candid pictures of Melanie and her husband, some still photos of beautiful scenery.

“Hey, these photos are new and quite lovely,” she commented, having a hard time taking off her eyes off them.

“Those were taken by Adrian. Remember, Adrian? He is in college now and he has decided to major in photography.” Melanie gushed, all proud mother in that moment.

It was during that time that the idea was conceived. Katherine needed to submit some pictures for the dating service in order to continue the process. Melanie was more than happy to volunteer to talk to her son and arrange an appointment for Katherine for the photo shoot.

A week later, Katherine got a call back from her friend, informing her that Adrian is on a school break and would be willing to meet with her. Melanie gave her the date and time and instructions to go to the back of the house, where an unattached garage had been converted into some kind of studio.

Katherine checked her appearance one more time. She is petite of body, barely making it to 5’3. Her long, black hair hang loosely, framing her face. Just having left her office, she was dressed in typical business wear, a dark gray skirt and suit jacket with a pale pink blouse. She was carrying a shopping bag, with several changes of clothes, ranging from casual to formal wear.

Taking a deep breath, and hearing soft music coming from the inside, she rapped at the door, calling out, “Hello.”

.

Name: Adrian Harvey
Height: 5'11
Build: Somewhat Muscular on his upper body and legs from some exercising He still could loose a few pounds.
Age: 20
Hair: Almost shoulder length slight natural wave
Eyes: Dark mysterious brown
Hair: Dark brown
Profession: Student, Part time Photographer

Adrian had loved photography since he saw an old Polaroid camera, and was able to get some film for it. Hi parents quickly realised it was, in the day of emerging digital photography, that it would be cheaper to buy him a digital camera; whilst he took some good photos, many were destined to the waste bin.

And so he started on his compact digital camera, and occasionally borrowed his Uncles aging Film OMD-10 SLR; with some basic tuition from his Uncle. As he approached his teens, he was able to purchase the Nikon D70, the first Digital SLR for the consumer. It was second hand, with several lenses, but he had stuck with Nikon ever since.

Now he owned a couple of D800 bodies, a semi professional Body from Nikon and various lenses. He preferred landscape work, but as a student he had to master all types of photography, and so a double garage had been converted into a part time studio, with various mostly second hand flash units and some backgrounds; though when he could he preferred real places for backgrounds.

He was awaiting the arrival of Katherine, a long term friend of his parents, all three having attended the same university. He wasn't a totally sure what Kate was after; all his mother had said was some more suitable photos of her for her companies website and her social media pages including linked-in.

The coffee machine was ready, filling the studio with the smell of fresh coffee, always seemed to help relax the clients, even if they didn't drink coffee. He also had soft jazz music- easily listening again helped to relax the client.

He heard a knock on the door, and looked at the clock- 5pm, bang on time.

He opened the door, and saw Kate looking slightly unsure.

"Afternoon Katherine, long time no see.... please come in." He couldn't remember the last time he really saw her, mid teens maybe so 5 possibly 6 years ago.

"Coffee?" he asked as he gestured to a leather sofa, part prop, part furniture.

Moments later she was sitting down with cup in hand....

"So Katherine, what sort of photos are you wanting? Mother mentioned somethig about your social pages specifically linked-in?"

He met her eyes as she sat in the sofa, her booted calfs exposed from under her tight fitting pencil skirt, a brief glimpse of a light pink blouse.

Katherine gave a warm smile at the young man who opened the door. Adrian, Melanie’s son, is all grown up, and is even taller than her.

She followed him inside the small but cozy studio, her eyes skimming the room. Obeying his gesture, she sat down on the comfy leather sofa. Nodding at his offer of coffee, she placed the bag of clothes beside her.

"So Katherine, what sort of photos are you wanting? Mother mentioned somethig about your social pages specifically linked-in?"

Katherine tried to gather her thoughts, as she accepts the cup of coffee from Adrian. She was wondering if it makes her such a loser to admit to this young man that she needs photos because she has to use a dating service to find a guy. She tried to matter-of-factly state her request.

“Well, I guess Melanie did not completely explain what I need. Hmm… well, I need several portrait photos of myself in different types of clothing.” She paused, fighting the feeling of embarrassment that is starting to rise within her. What is wrong with her? Many people use dating services. “It is for my personal profile for a dating service,” she finally blurted out. “Please don’t laugh,” she murmured softly.

.

“Please don’t laugh,”

Adrian smiled warmly.. "Why should I laugh... Firstly it says a lot about society that we live in that we have to use such methods to find a partner, and also I am in awe of you for being so bold to try it. I know a friend from Uni, - her older sister found he fiance that way..."

He sipped his coffee..

"So basically you want t a few photos to flatter yourself? Well that shouldn't be too difficult" winking cheekily.

"I see you have a bag with you, any preference as to what attire you want to wear? I suggest a mixture of work and casual.... "

"Why should I laugh... Firstly it says a lot about society that we live in that we have to use such methods to find a partner, and also I am in awe of you for being so bold to try it. I know a friend from Uni, - her older sister found he fiance that way..."

Adrian’s words penetrated through her discomfort, easing her mind. He’s right. This is a common thing. Maybe because he is of a different generation, he has definitely a different view on the situation.

Feeling her anxiety melting away, she looked up from the cup of coffee and into Adrian’s sparkling eyes. She gave him a warm smile, showing a dimple on her left cheek.

"So basically you want t a few photos to flatter yourself? Well that shouldn't be too difficult"

His next words, some kind of polite compliment, made her smile deeper.

“Definitely. I want to look nice and presentable.”

"I see you have a bag with you, any preference as to what attire you want to wear? I suggest a mixture of work and casual.... "

Glancing at the bag that she had put down, she answered, “Actually, the agency wants me to submit several photos wearing different types of clothes. I brought some which I think is appropriate.”

Her eyes scanned the small studio, hoping to find some kind of dressing room. “It would probably mean I have to change my outfit several times,” she finished.

.

He saw her looking around the rom as she spoke.

"There is a screen in the corner, or if you prefer, you can use a spare bedroom in the house?"

he sipped his own coffee before continuing..

"But as you look rather professional, powerful in your current attire, why don't we start a few shots just to see how we get on together. I will admit portraiture work is not my fortie, but I do need to develop my skills further. But one thing that always helps is a connection between the client and the photographer..."

With his cup rested on the table, he bought out a Japanese Rice Paper Room divider screen, and placed it behind the sofa where Kat was sitting. Moments later there were some coloured lights shining through the rice paper as Adrian retrieved his camera.

Katherine listened carefully as Adrian spoke, feeling her sense of embarrassment slowly fading.

"There is a screen in the corner, or if you prefer, you can use a spare bedroom in the house?"

“Oh, I guess whichever is easier.”

"But as you look rather professional, powerful in your current attire, why don't we start a few shots just to see how we get on together. I will admit portraiture work is not my fortie, but I do need to develop my skills further. But one thing that always helps is a connection between the client and the photographer..."

Glancing down at her outfit, she has to admit that she looked quite professional. Sliding her hands over her skirt, she nodded.

“That seems like a good idea. I guess we could just start with this outfit.”

She quietly watched as Adrian started to move things around. She was quite impressed at how surely he moves, how minimal his actions as he arranged his equipment.

Feeling a bit self-conscious, she asked, “Do I just stay here on the sofa, or do you need me to move or stand…..” Her words drifted, obviously looking for direnction.

.

Adrian removed his coffee mug, and as Kat's was almost empty he took that as well and placed them out of the shot on the little area used for a brew area.

"Why don't you remove your coat, and your jacket as well if you like, and just sit where you are"

Moments later, with his camera in his hand, he started to take a few photos. He knew they would be discarded, but he just wanted to get Kat familiar with the studio lights and the sound of the shutter closing.

Kat wordlessly handed her coffee cup to Adrian as she continue to observe him.

"Why don't you remove your coat, and your jacket as well if you like, and just sit where you are"

‘Oh sure..,’ she acquiesced graciously. Standing up, she took off her coat, followed with her suit jacket. The pink blouse hugged her torso, a button left opened for some cleavage.

She sat down and felt self-conscious as Adrian started taking some shots. She felt awkward and unsure what to do.

“Do I smile at the camera…or do I just ignore you….?” She asked, her expression one of uncertainty.

“I feel silly,” she confessed with a slight laugh.

.

“I feel silly,” she confessed with a slight laugh.

Adrian smiled as he spoke "Makes two of us of sorts. Now it depends what look you want? Professional and stern? Stern, Professional and yet relaxed?" I suggest we go for the Professional and relaxed. Lean forward, cross your legs possibly and smile, thinking about someone, or something that makes you smile within?"

He started to fire away again, standing, kneeeling, the lights firing into the umbrellas, as he zoomed in and out, trying to get hints of her clevage, in, or zooming out to get a fuller story in the photo.

"stretch out your legs, place you hand on your lap?"

"Wow thats good, you look adorable, what a natural smile...."

He hardly ever stopped speaking, always making compliments or making suggestions. He was there for about 20 minutes as he directed her, seeing Kat relax as she became more comfortable to him, and her environment. But he always engaged with her rather than spoke at her....

.

Kat tried to follow Adrian’s instructions. At first, it felt so unnatural. She can feel her lips trembling as she smile. Her movements were quite stiff, her spine rigid. But as the clicking of the camera continued, she started to relax a bit.

"Lean forward, cross your legs possibly and smile.

She crossed her legs, causing the hem of her skirt to rise a bit, showing some flesh between her skirt and her booted feet. She leaned forward, staring shyly at the camera, baring a little bit cleavage.

Think about someone, or something that makes you smile within?

Her smile became impish revealing the elusive dimple, a slight sparkle started to appear in her eyes.

"stretch out your legs, place you hand on your lap?"

"Wow thats good, you look adorable, what a natural smile...."

Pleased with the compliment, she changed her position. She stretched her legs, one slightly bent at the knee, with her hands on her lap. She angled her torso a bit, giving Adrian a side view of her body, clearly outlining the shape of her breasts. She looked at the camera, her smile becoming more and more natural.
|
“You are quite good at this.” She complimented him.

.

“You are quite good at this.” She complimented him.

'Thank you Katherine, and you are, well rather photogenic in a girl next door way...."

He inhaled deeply be fore quickly adding "if that makes sense?"

"Look at the lens Katherine and remember one of your most enjoyable fucks....."

He saw a blush and a giggle.

"Perfect........"

He lowered the camera. "Want to see the first few?"

At Adrian’s comment about her being photogenic, and then his hastily added ‘if that makes sense’, Katherine was slightly amused. She has become almost relaxed now, and in some unexpected way, enjoying being the focus of the camera.

"Look at the lens Katherine and remember one of your most enjoyable fucks....."

Normally such a crude word would have offended her, but today she just thought it was funny, causing her to give an embarrassed giggle. But still, she smiled and posed for the camera.

When the clicking stops, and Adrian asked her if she is interested to see the preliminary pictures, she was surprisingly excited.

She gave an eager ‘yes’, standing and coming close towards him, anticipation in her eyes.

.

He turned the Espresso machine back on, before removing the memory card from the camera and pacing it into the slot on his large desk top. Moments later, Light-room was importing the files into the software.

As the photos were being uploaded he started to make himself a coffee
"Do you want on as well or even tea?"

Before long, after a few swift key strokes and mouse sweeps, the photos appeared in a slide show on both the large 27 inch screen and the 50 inch flat screen monitor above the desk as soft music emerged from the speakers.

Katherine stood idly, as she watched Adrian do his thing. She didn’t mind standing. After sitting for quite some time, she wanted to stretch her legs.

At his question for more coffee or tea, she shook her head. “No, I’m good,” she politely refused.

At the sound of some soft music, she turned only to be greeted by her own face in the huge screen above his desk. In some ways, it feels strange looking at herself. She have to admit she looks nice, and as the slideshow progressed, she can see the changes in her own smile -- from stiff and formal to more relaxed and natural.

‘I think I like the latter pictures better,” she murmured, almost to herself.

.

He turned to face her.

"Yes I agree, more natural, especially when I asked you to remember a good time in your life. It helps you to relax and be more natural. So, what would you like to do next Katherine?"

He looked at her, almost old enough to be his mother but he found her attractive, alluring. During the shoot, at times her loose blouse became taught across her breasts, exposing the delicate lace of her bra cup underneath.

"A change of pose, location and., or a change of attire? I suggest we do some standing up?"

At Adrian’s question, Katherine tilted her head, wondering what she would like to do next.

“Well, they want me to submit several photos of me in different types of clothing. I got some formal clothes and I got some casual clothes.”

Looking down at her business attire, she wondered which is easier - to dress up or dress down. Making a decision quickly, she said, “I think we should go with formal first.”

She bent down to pick up the shopping bag she was carrying earlier, giving Adrian’s a nice eyeful of her shapely bottom, outlined clearly in the tight fitting skirt. Turning around, she was holding three gowns: a dark red one, a classic black gown, and a pale blue number.

“I brought three different colors, not sure which would look better for the camera. What do you think?,” she asked.

Emily looked down at the blue one, and nodded her head. Putting aside the other dresses, she looked around, wondering where she can change.

“Do I change here, or do I need to go the main house?,” she finally asked.

.

He looked at her slightly embarrassed...

"Errr oh Sorry I forgot. There is a screen in the far corner, or if you prefer, you can use the spare bedroom on the ground floor.... up to you."

He met her eyes and smiled apologetically.

She stood there, weighing her options. Then she looked at her watch, and she made an impulsive decision.

“Why don’t me stop here for now? I was thinking if you take pictures outside of this studio. You see, I will be attending some kind of formal social function tomorrow night. If you can meet me at my home like an hour earlier you can take some photos. I will be all dressed up at that time. What do you think?” she asked.

.

Adrian met her eyes as she spoke.

"Sure, that can work, i will need your address of course.... "

He paused...

"What size is your garden? Is there a suitable photogenic background? And if you want to take some photos in a different pose, such as standing or with a differing background now that can be achieve, as you are of course, I can always use a coloured background roll? It is entirely upto you Katherine."

At Adrian’s assent, Kat pulled out a business card from her purse and wrote her address at the back. She also wrote down her mobile phone number.

At his questions, she paused, and then answered, “Well, there is a garden with a nice gazebo that will work I guess.”

She hesitated, “Well, this is not really my forte, so I’m going to leave most of the artistic decisions in your hands. Bring what you need or tell me what you need and I’ll see about getting it.”

Picking up the shopping bag and putting back the clothes she pulled out inside, “I guess this end our session for now. I really appreciate you finding the time to do this for me.”

.

He smiles as she hands him her card "Thank you"

"Well have good evening and I will see you around 4 tomorrow?"

He lead her out to the front of the house and her car, and watched her drive away before returning to his studio.

Moments later he was starting to edit and crop the photos he had taken, till he had from the 70 or so he shot about 25 that he liked. A couple of hours later he saved them as small jpegs and emailed them to her in 5 sets of emails, the first one opening with

"Hi Katherine, here are some lower quality photos from earlier. I will bring the higher resolution copies wit me tomorrow. Adrian "

Pleased with herself, Katherine went home.

Later, already in bed, she opened her laptop to check her email. To her surprise, she has an email from Adrian. She quickly clicked on it and read her note. She smiled at the thoughtfulness of the gesture even as she systematically opened and saved the photos.

Before closing, she wrote down a response.

“Thanks for the photos. I’m quite happy with the results and I’m excited to see the other photos. I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s photo shoot.”

Smiling, she pressed send.
