Alan White
40-ish
5’10”
170 lbs
brown hair
blue eyes
handsome but not overly so
Lawyer

Alan White had had the damnedest time retaining a secretary for more than six months since he had left the mega law firm of Smith, Kline, Feldman, Anderson and Dreyhoff and opened on his own private practice. He suspected it might have something to do with his personality, as he was very high strung and somewhat of a control freak. He could be very demanding and expected the same perfection from others as he did from himself. He was also, if he had to admit it, something of a misogynist as well, which sometimes proved problematic as he would only hire female secretaries. It wasn’t that he hated women or even disliked them, on the contrary he liked them perhaps too much, but it was simply that he considered himself, or any male for that matter, to be far superior to women and felt it was perfectly normal and acceptable to treat them as inferiors.

But when the latest candidate arrived, he felt an almost sudden urge to hire her although he wasn’t sure why. She didn’t have the looks of a supermodel or porn star, which had been the criteria for several of his former ones. They had all proven to be totally incompetent as secretaries but had provided him with some entertainment, he smiled to himself, reflecting on some of his more memorable sexual escapades with them. And she certainly didn’t appear particularly competent either, she had no real job experience and seemed unfamiliar with standard office procedures as he explained her duties. But there was something about her, he still couldn’t quite put his finger on it, but something inside him told him he should hire her.

Kate Savoy
22
120
Red Hair
Blue eyes
Pale complexion, classically beautiful

Kate had found the interview to be odd at best. She was tired of working crappy retail jobs. She wanted to make a decent amount of money so she could move out of her parents house. She had never really DONE anything in an office before, but she do a lot of typing in high school if nothing else.

There seemed to be an uncomfortable silence and she wondered if she had said something wrong.

“Mr. White?” she asked, a bit meekly. “Would you like me to go?” she asked. She then took a deep breath and looked at him. "I know I don't have any experience Mr. White, but I am smart, and I pick up on things very quickly. If you hire me, I promise you won't be disappointed."

“Mr. White?”

Alan shook his head bringing him out of his reverie and back to reality. He had been staring at her, trying to figure out just what it was about her that made it feel like destiny that she had walked into his office.

“Go? Go?” he repeated. “Goodness no, Ms. Savoy. Quite the contrary. I think you’re perfect, just perfect.” He felt flustered, not at all like himself. She seemed uncomfortable, my god, I must have been staring, he realized. He ramped up the charm and swagger, trying to bring a lightheartedness back to the conversation.

“I have no problem with your lack of experience, my dear,” he told her. “I have had no more success with women who claimed to be experienced than those who didn’t. I’m sure you will quickly learn how to take care of my needs. And I seriously doubt I will be disappointed.”

He looked at her with a bemused smile, trying to decipher what it was about her that appealed to him. No, maybe she wasn’t supermodel material but she had a kind of classic beauty that had captured Alan’s attention. And her pale complexion set off her red hair in a rather striking way. But it wasn’t her looks alone that made her seem special, it was something about her demeanor, the way she held her body, the way she talked. It was like she knew something you didn’t know, like she had a secret that she wanted to tell you but wasn’t going to tell you.

Again Alan realized he was staring and regained his composure. “Well, I guess it’s settled then,” he announced. “So when can you start, Kate? May I call you Kate?”

She felt a sense of relief when she heard that her lack of experience wouldn't prevent her from getting the job. She had tried to look away, and blushed a little as he kept looking her over, she didn't want to comment on it, after all, she wanted and needed the job.

When he asked when she could start she smiled brightly at him. "Whenever you need Mr. White, I could start today if you really needed me to." she offered.

“I could start today if you really needed me to."

Her offer actually startled Alan, he hadn’t planned that far in advance. Today? Start today? No, no, he wasn’t prepared for that. For someone else to be in his office, in his space.

He smiled at her sweetly. “I appreciate your enthusiasm, Kate,” he tried his best to sound encouraging, “but that isn’t necessary. You can start tomorrow, 9 am sharp.” He stood up and walked around from behind his desk toward the door, gesturing that she was free to go now.

As she stood up he looked her up and down, assessing not so much her body as her attire. “And remember, Kate, it’s important to dress attractively for your position, it’s very important that you make a good impression on my clients, or potential clients.” He gave her another bemused smile. He watched her leave, running back through the interview in his mind, not certain why he decided to hire her and wondering how it was going to work out.

Kate smiled and nodded when he told her she would start the next day.

“Alright Mr. White.” She smiled at him as she got up and he moved to the door. “Thank you again for allowing me this opportunity.” She said as she exited. She turned around when he reminded her about her attire, to which she nodded her head. “I won’t disappoint you Mr. White”, although she could hardly know the full meaning of his words.

The next morning she was up early, her hair done, make up on and ready to head out the door. She looked herself over in the mirror, she was wearing a black pencil skirt, black high heels, and a white blouse. She looked nice she thought, feminine but not unprofessional, she hoped that Mr. White would approve.

She arrived a few minutes early at the office, having always been one for punctuality, and waited for him at the door since she didn’t have a key to the office yet. Finally, a real job, a stepping stone to something better, she was eager to begin.

Alan arrived precisely at nine, impeccably dressed as always. As he rounded the corner from the parking lot, he was taken aback to see Kate standing at the door despite the fact that he was the one who had told her to be there at nine. As confidant and self-assured as he was with his clients and in the courtroom, Alan still had his awkward moments in personal interactions, especially with women. Even though he thought himself superior and always ended up being dominant, he nevertheless seemed slightly uncomfortable in his mannerisms. He pulled himself together as he reached the door and stood next to Kate.

“Good morning,” he smiled nervously, looking her up and down. The skirt was tight although to the knees, the heels were high making her legs nice and taut and the blouse was appropriate but boring, he noted. “You look very nice,” he offered graciously.

He opened the door and let her go in first. There was only an outer office/reception area and his office past it. “Well, yes, you’ll sit here of course, so make yourself at home and get settled. I’ll have some things I need typed up for you shortly.” He walked past her then stopped and turned before going into his office.

“Um, I’m sorry, but are those stockings or pantyhose?” he asked out of the blue, nervously fingering his lapel. “Pardon my asking, it’s just a little peculiarity of mine,” he laughed nervously. “It’s just that I hate pantyhose, I think they never should have been invented.”

Kate smiled at Mr. White as he approached the office. He was well dressed, as she supposed most lawyers always were. He was rather dashing though, she had to admit to herself. Being that he was an older man, he seemed to have an air of confidence and masculinity about him that younger men didn’t seem to possess.

She cleared these thoughts from her head as he opened the door and then followed him in. She nodded slightly as he directed her to her desk, sitting down in the chair there and crossing her legs. She was just putting her purse in the bottom drawer of her desk when he asked about her stockings.

“Stockings…” She said, thinking it a strange question but not thinking much of it. She was about to say how much she disliked pantyhose when he echoed the very same thought. “I was about to say the very same thing.” She laughed softly. Perhaps he was a cross dresser.

She then looked just behind him and saw the “break” area where the coffee pot and it’s accoutrements were stored. “I’ll start a pot of coffee while you get settled in Mr. White. How strong do you like your coffee?”

Alan smiled to himself at her reply, pleased that she agreed with him but also pleased knowing she was wearing stockings. He went into his office and started sorting through his papers, finding the ones he needed Kate to work on. He heard her ask him about coffee. He gathered up some notes he needed typed up and walked back out to her desk.

“Good coffee is like a good woman, not too strong but not too weak, wouldn’t you agree, Kate?” he replied cocking his head sideways with his bemused smile. “I’m sure you’ll figure it out. And black with sugar, no cream,” he added. “Anyway, I need these notes typed up right away, I have a meeting at ten. Be sure you get them right,” he instructed her.

He turned to head back into his office, then turned around again at the door. “By the way, that’s a very nice blouse, Kate. But maybe tomorrow you could wear something a little less conservative? Something with more of a… uh… neckline?” He waved his hand in front of his chest, indicating he meant lower-cut. “Well, anyway, that’ll be all for now. Let me know when my papers are ready.” And he went back to his desk and sat down, glancing up occasionally to watch Kate working.

She had just finished pouring water in the back of the coffee maker when he responded to her question. She raised an eyebrow, and was miffed to say the least, but said nothing, the same reaction went to his comment on excusing his “weird” sense of humor.

She put the coffee in the filter and then started to coffee maker to brewing. His request for her to wear a lower cut shirt didn’t make her feel any better about the bad feeling she was getting about this job in general. She would do her best to stick it out, however, she needed the experience, even if it was working for someone who was apparently a pig.

Once the coffee was done, she brought him a cup, and some cream and sugar to add as he liked. She then went to her desk and started typing up the pile of notes he had left for her.

Before too long, she was done typing his notes and she brought them into his office.

“Here you are Mr. White. What would you like me to do next?” she asked.

Alan took the papers she handed him, glanced at them, then set them down on his desk. He looked her up and down again with his trademark bemused look and noticed what a pretty face she had, kind of a classic beauty, he thought.

“Hm, let’s see, can you do filing? These all need to be filed.” He handed her a rather large stack of folders and loose papers. “Be sure you get them right now,” he admonished. He resisted the temptation to give her a pat on the ass as she turned to go, her arms full of the papers to be filed. But he did watch it carefully and admiringly as she walked back into the front room.

He picked up the papers she had just typed and looked them over. An irritated look came over his face. He opened a desk drawer and pulled out a hilighter and made several angry marks on the pages. Then he grabbed the papers and strode into the front room and practically threw them on Kate’s desk.

“There are 4 typos here, Miss Savoy,” he growled. “Four! I cannot tolerate mistakes. You will have to do better than this. Type these again without mistakes!” He turned sharply and marched back into his office.
