Secret Santa?

It's November, so I guess it's about time to start discussions about Secret Santa. As many of you remember, last year we had a Secret Santa gift exchange that most of us thoroughly enjoyed. Do we want to have another exchange this year? Thoughts? Opinions? I'd be more than happy to organize it again, as it gives me something to do. So, who wants to play? Anything different you think should be done this year?

so how does it all work...i wasn't here last year so i need some catching up!

Well, last year we got a big group together and I (secretly) assigned numbers; people picked a number and I gave them their corresponding Santa. They then sent a gift to that person and then on a particular date, we opened our gifts. It was lots of fun, getting presents from lit friends and then "seeing" what everyone got.

Try to keep me out of it. I'm definately back in. I was so touched and surprised by my gift last year. It's great to know that you have something physical from someone here. I'll always have that reminder of my second home.

How it worked last year was:

Everyone signed up on the thread page, meaning we said we wanted to be in it.

After that, numbers were created based on the total number of entrants.

Then everyone picked a number.

We set a dollar limit to 10 bucks last year. At least I think it was $10 (US).

Then SJ sent us a PM with the vital information needed to send our gift to our persons.

After that, much waiting and "My gift hasn't come yet" statements were made. After the end of all the waiting and shipping, everyone got their gifts and joy was brought to our small part of the cyber world.

I answered that a bit above and Rikaam answered fairly well, too. After we get everyone who wants to participate signed up, we'll make choices like our $ amount and our gift opening date, etc. I really want to get the whole going a little earlier this year to give more time for gifts to be mailed, etc. I learned a few lessons last year, so I think it ought to run smoother this year.

It was. It's particularly nice for those folks who don't have much in the way of family/friends to share their holiday spirit with.
I'll probably give the sign up a few more days and then start a thread with all the questions that we need to deal with. I think we had close to twenty people last year, if I remember right.

Last year, I got color info and favorite things lists and I asked any specific questions that the Santas had for their recipient (we needed sizes for a few people), but it's totally up to the Santa what they want to give. We had lots of handmade gifts last year and all of them were really thoughtful gifts.
And I was overly gifted as well. In all my life, I will never ever forget what y'all did for me last year.
