Man I have a craving for some nice romantic secret admirer stories. (Preferably gay male ones but straight ones would be ok too.) Particularly, I am imagining a story where the main character is the admirer, not the admiree. I want to see some of that internal conflict over, "Should I tell them who I am? what if they don't like me? I know they won't like me but they looked sad and I wanted to show them that somebody loves them even if I'm not good enough... but I understand them better than anyone else, if they love my gifts and letters then they sort of already love the inner me, am I sure they would object to the outer me...? I can't keep up this masquerade forever, it's cruel to keep them in suspense..." Lots of lovely angst, some clever dodging of the admiree's investigations into who their admirer is, and a fluffy sexy happy ending.

So, anyone got any or want to write one? :rose:

I'm assuming there would be some masturbation in between the angst.

I read somewhere today where someone (the unrequited) stated that even if the female wasn't married and he wasn't with someone, that he still wouldn't try and hookup because it may jeopardize the friendship. Is that just whack or what? Because I would want to know if there was something there to explore. Maybe it's just me. Good idea though. Someone should run with this one.

Your idea sounds good to me.
As for me though, if I had any admirers, I'm sure they'd want to keep it a secret from the rest of the world.

We do need more romance around here. I mean dang there's only so much Hi what's your name let's fuck stories you can stand.

I wish I could say I'll get right to one, but well I am slow in writing and I got alot of stories waiting to be written already.

Eventually I'll toss some romance into one of mine I swear, though not anytime soon. :(

Masturbation and Seducing Friends

I'm assuming there would be some masturbation in between the angst.

Masturbation would be okay, but I'd rather see the main character having sex with someone else, and either not enjoying because they aren't with the person they want, or else trying to imagine that they are with that person. I actually did just that in a very soon to be published story (I'm just waiting for final responses from overworked editors).

Some voyeurism (the main character brutalizes himself/herself by watching their would-be lover with someone else) could be fun, too.

Oh, and on the "not jeopardizing the friendship" thing... I wasted a lot of potential lust when I was younger, thinking that friendships were golden, and not wanting to ruin them. I can't tell you today if that was a right or wrong approach, but since almost all of those friends moved on with time and distance... it was probably foolish not to explore something physical back then.

Masturbation while fantasizing about the admired one would be fine for the admirer, but I wouldn't want to see them having sex with someone else, instead I'd much rather see them refusing or avoiding an opportunity to have sex with someone else, so as to be loyal to their love even if it's only a fantasy. Secret admirer characters are supposed to be sympathetic because they are pitiable but if you take a chance on them they turn out to be extremely honorable and loyal.

Now the admired one on the other hand, it would be fine to show them having unsatisfactory sex with a one night stand or a paid companion. I wouldn't want them to have a lover or spouse though because that would put both characters in a bad light, the admirer as a poacher and the admired as a cheater/abandoner. Yuck.

Personally I adore characters who are miserably lonely and getting no sex at all because then I really root for them to get together with the other character and get their happy ever after. So if I were writing it other than masturbation I wouldn't put any until the climax of the story. Honestly I feel like sex in romantic fiction is better when it's a more rare reward for the reader and more meaningful to the characters, not something that happens every 5,000 words.

What about a wife stuck in a loveless marriage to a bullying husband for financial reasons (she can't earn enough to keep herself and her elderly, sick parent who needs a lot of care) , or "for the sake of the children" because she doesn't want to put them through the trauma of a break-up?

It's just not something I would enjoy, or would write. If someone's stuck in a bad marriage an affair certainly isn't a solution, it will only make things messier. Her feelings about being trapped and feeling guilty wouldn't be fun to read, and would clash with the typically lighthearted and pure mood of the secret admirer device, both the admirer's expression of how wonderful the admiree seems to them, and the playful cat-and-mouse game as the admiree tries to investigate clues to the admirer's identity.

I'm about three quarters of the way through my new story and it does have a secret admirer featured in it. I just need to get it completed. And the challenge is to make the discovery and the coming together successful.

I quite like the idea of the point sunandshadow made about writing from the perspective of the admirer, and including their angst and conflict. It's a great idea to explore for a future story. To go on my "to do list.":)
