Second chances

Tim Sargeant is a successful British entrepreneur. Almost fifty now, he’d made several fortunes in business, first in Telecoms and then, more recently, in biotech.

He seemed to have the ideal life. He’d married young and he and his wife had had two kids, both of whom were now grown up. Then, one day, out of the blue, his wife informed him that she was leaving him for a younger man.

Tim was devastated. There was no hope of a reconciliation and the subsequent legal wranglings were bitter. But after the divorce had been finalised Tim had to face up to the fact that for the first time in thirty years he was single and alone.

He did all those things wealthy middle aged men do. He bought a yacht, several motorbikes and sports cars, got obsessive about his fitness and began to try and rediscover his youth.

That was how he came to meet your character, a woman almost half his age, born into a more permissive generation, who would introduce him to a world of privilege and sin that he never knew existed.

Mother's new companion Joe waved at a man who is following a waitress to a table. He looks around 50, slightly younger than Joe.

This must be another rich men's club. Even the brunch menu has many dinner entrée items. I am just waking up from an all-night-long at Joe's big house. Mother sitting across is staring hard at the menu and Joe sitting next to me saying, “OK, girls, what would you like to order?”

He must be loud enough for the other guy whom he just waved at to look at 3 of us with a smile.
