A group of terminally-ill patients who are dying and desperate reluctantly enroll in a secretive government project to genetically alter the human body with performance enhancers. They travel to a top-secret island facility in the South Pacific and undergo a series of experiments that border on torture. Knowing this is their last chance to live, they grit their teeth and push through the agony.
Ultimately, the efforts are successful and the patients are invigorated with new life and a slew of superhuman abilities. Excited to return home, they soon discover that their families have been told they didn't make it and on paper, they are legally dead. No identity. No rights. No hope of regaining their old lives. They then have to make a choice. Do they serve as super soldiers and intelligence operatives as the project commander is demanding? Or do they potentially sacrifice their new lives and try to escape or revolt?
There are a variety of paths this story can follow, and the characters can also split off into different factions. It will really depend on what any writers who show interest want to do.
