i see that the search function is now available for poetry. it's awesome and looks promising for future poems. (Thank you Laurel and Manu!)

i was wondering is there an ability yet to add tags to existing poems?

:rose:

That's interesting; I guess I hadn't noticed.

I suppose in order to add tags to pre-existing poems that didn't have them, you could re-submit them as "Title -EDITED," adding the tags you wish in the edited submission. I'd put "Please remove '-EDITED'" in the 'notes' field, also, as I have seen at least one instance where this minor detail was overlooked.

Another nice feature is that one gets to see what the popular searches are. Some of our poems may could have listed those search tags, but we weren't thinking, now, were we?

A capacity to add tags to existing poems, if it could be somehow appended, would save a lot of editorial work, though.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Yes, thank you L&M, and thank you WST for letting us know.

You don't need tag lines as long as the searcher includes a specific line or phrase from the poem that they're looking for.

Sure enough! Even just a single word... Not sure where the date cutoff for the database is... several months back at least, I think. Nice feature. I wonder if tags are included in the searches, though... for example, if you include "villanelle" in the tags section for a poem that's a villanelle, but the word itself appears nowhere in the poem or the title.

search option.....i dont know if theres a point

Well, one point would be, for example, if you want to find a poem you remember part of, but don't remember the author or the title of the poem, and you'd like to re-read it, or show it to someone else.

Another point would be if you wanted to read some poems about a certain theme, like "sexy girls" (one of the "popular" search terms) -- or the seasons, or trees, or work, or whatever.

Yet another would be if you wanted to take a look at how poets here handle certain forms, like the sonnet, haiku, etc.

It might be of interest to some how or if the "popular searches" change or evolve.

Also, some may be interested in what searches yield the most results.

Of course, as with most optional features, there will be some who have no interest at all. But lack of interest by some doesn't signify that the search feature is pointless for the rest.
