In the late 40s and the sixties the Australian government had a policy of removing Aboriginal children from their parents and placing them in foster care. This care was with white families. I gather the reason for this was that the government felt the children were in danger. Most Australian feel that this was not a fair policy although some would have been actually in danger.

These children are refered to as the Stolen generation and they are now demanding an appology from the government and compensation.

No doubt you would have seen The United Nations condemnation of the Australian treatment of "Refugees" or Boat Peolpe as they are refered to generally. Now the UN is saying that Children should no be held in custody.

Let me make something clear, the boat people that arrive in Australia usually come from Malaysia their origins can be many varied places but their last port of call is normally from SE Asia.

These people are Illegal Immigrants and must be subject to our laws.

The problem is that if they bring children what do we do. Do we seperate them from their parents and face another stolen generation problem. Do we let the parents and children out of detention which is like giving a free pass to them to enter our country.

So if a terrorist want to get entry to Austraia all they need do is bring a child.

Now Australia has done a deal with the US we will swap Illegal with them we will take Cubans and you will take ours so they do not end up in their country of choice.

As hard as it may seem I feel that they should all be put on a plane and sent back to their last port of call. Where they can apply to come to Australia.

In this issue the UN should shut the F*** up unless they want to take the refugees them self !!!!

Ok so it isn;t an easy choice and while i would love to say "yes please come to our country, we will help you and hopefully you will have a better life" i know we can't.

I think I read somewhere that our environment is already having trouble supporting our own population.

Personally i think along the lines of "put em on a plane and send them straight back".

Cold? yes. Heartless? probably.... but its either that or fling open the doors and say "come on in".

I would say the same for illegal immigrants in the US as well.

There are mechanisms in place by which those seeking a "better life" can get it.

Heartless? Damned straight!

However, who is really responsible for these children and families? Not the country they abscond to, for sure.

They don't have squatter's rights.

Whenever any politician or charity talks about the serious problems with disease, illegal immigration and so forth .. there's this big shadow of an unspoken word hovering over it all

Overpopulation.

The crowded are spilling out into the less crowded areas.

And those places that produce less children per person, (mostly industrialized, wealthy nations) are now dealing with the crowd.

It's getting crowded, period. All nations, especially those with such huge populations, need to think about the problem seriously. This is the root cause of many growning global problems, and unless it is addressed, the problems will only grow.

I was a little worried about the sort of responses I would get to this thread. Thanks for the comments to date ppls. It good to see we can seperate the issues. This is purly about the manner of entry to any country nothing to do with origins.
