Introduction: Millennium City
http://files.champions-online.com/img/MC_Annc/MC-After.jpg
After Doctor Destroyer obliterated Detroit, the city’s future seemed bleak. More than 60,000 people died in the attack. The few areas of the city that had withstood Destroyer’s doomsday weapons were quickly consumed in fires, floods and looting. What industry had survived the downturn in the economy quickly packed up and moved to safer regions.
Today, the gleaming skyscrapers of Millennium City™ stand as an example of American innovation and determination.
With the funding and technology available to them after the Battle of Detroit, planners decided not to rebuild the city, but to recreate it. Millennium City would be something the world had never seen before – a city with every possible technological advantage and comfort.
Corporations such as Harmon Industries and Cambridge Biotech committed vast amounts of their resources to constructing the “City of the Future.” Heroes flocked to the project as well, volunteering their time and powers to the effort.
Now spire-like skyscrapers are connected by picturesque garden skybridges. Solar panels and nearby windmill farms generate clean, renewable power. Automated, computer-controlled highways eliminate gridlock and traffic accidents. Flashy 3-D holograms have replaced billboards. Info-Kiosks on street corners offer a continual stream of news and information. Free, high-speed wireless Internet access is available in every business and home, and Millennium City’s schools and libraries store the vast majority of their data electronically.
Dozens of corporations have moved their headquarters to the revitalized downtown, and millions of residents have been attracted by the city’s luxuries and plentiful jobs.
Heroes, too, have flocked to Millennium City. The world’s most powerful superteam, the Champions, can be found in Millennium City, in addition to other colorful heroes, like the genetically-altered genius gorilla Dr. Silverback or the super strong cop codenamed Kodiak.
Of course, there are superhuman villains as well. High-tech thieves and mercenaries plague the city’s corporations and research facilities. The New Purple Gang has formed out of the remnants of Detroit’s organized crime families. Old threats like VIPER lurk in the shadows, waiting for their chance to strike.
Looming over all is the spectre of Doctor Destroyer. Millennium City was created in defiance of his plans. He will not allow the insult to go unanswered.

It's been more than 17 years since Doctor Destroyer blasted Detroit into rubble. But today, the gleaming skyscrapers of Millennium City stand upon the ashes of Detroit as an example of innovation and determination, drawing Heroes from far and wide. The world’s most powerful superteam, the Champions, can be found in Millennium City, in addition to other colorful heroes, like the genetically-altered genius gorilla Dr. Silverback or the super strong cop codenamed Kodiak. Followed by dozen if not hundreds of unique and powerful heroes fighting untold dangers threatening not just Millennium City but the rest of the world as well.
One of these recent heroes is me, my name is Lirdzyne of the house Barrindar, which means in human tongue, Brand Hunter of the house, Spawns of Black Hearts. Or in short tongues, my name would be, Lird Barrindar, Branded Spawn of Black Hearts. The people of this realm calls me Blackheart Hellbrandt, or just Blackheart or Hellbrandt, whichever they prefer.
Names are not important to me though. I have been freed of my people's suppression, though I am sealed away from my own home realm, am I enjoying life here on Earth more then in the realm of my people, the Drows or the Dark Elves as they are known. My life has not been easy but it was not about taking the easy path, in the end I got over it and now I am having a much happier life. Though I am a loner still, as I kill while most heroes just knock them unconscious, are the thanks of those I save enough to make me move on in life.
And now the people I've sworn to protect needs my aid. The city is under direct attack from the Qulaar, an alien race whose motives remain unclear to even the Champions themselves. The call goes out to all able-bodied heroes to lend a hand in helping to repel the onslaught and clean up the mess the Qulaar are making. And I am one of these heroes who seek to end tihs invasion, from what I've heard so where these insectoids much more dangerous when they attacked decades ago, but now they are attacking in swarms as if in a made personal rage rather then using their genetically made monsters.
I know little of the Qulaar but I know enough of insectoids from my own realm that these are extremely like Umber-hulks, blind as bats but with hearing and touch far above regular beings. But these are more intelligent and with advanced technology. I cannot fight these invaders alone but I can do my best to take down a large number and help the Police in keeping them from damaging more of the city.
Braking from my thought I hear a buzz from next to me and a drone attacks me with its clutching hands in an almost comical way. I react as is my nature and training, by summoning a sphere of hellfire and with a precise threw blew a hole straight through the drone's chest, it end up collapsing, burning apart by the black and green flames until it is smouldering ash. I am standing at the front lines of the advancing military and police forces trying to retake the central city from the aliens, they are attacking the Ironclad Cannon, the main anti invasion and anti air defence cannon of the city, made by the alien Ironclad, a powerful weapon capable of punching holes through the strongest of space ship.
An officer shoots down a firebug and shouts at me while e keeps shooting his handgun at another bug. "Blacheart! The chief wants you to get to the
Champion HQ! The Qulaar are attempting to disarm the cannon again!" I draw my sword, the Nazgiria, not a real word, but it is its name, it is a Spirirt sword connected to me, and it is a she, a spirit of a black dragon to be precise, contained within this sword after I killed her myself, now we work together as one. "As you command." I then leap out and black and green flames erupt from my back and I fly in a blazing fury through the swarming insectoids. My blade is covered by hellfire and I burn their frail bodies apart as I cut through them as I pass them by.
The cannon is up ahead and I extinguish the wings from my back and land with a flip on the staircase leading up towards the cannon. Just then a Qulaar dropship flies down towards my location, its main cannon loading up its energy beam. I do not notice until a magic projectile of some kind splits the skies and punches a hole through the carapace of the small drop ship and it drops to the ground, exploding shortly afterwards.
With my sword drawn I step up towards the Ironclad Cannon, only to find the crw and Ironclad being attacked form all sides by the insectoids. I leap forward, my blade splitting apart the insects before more dropships approaches. One of them flies over one of the AA guns, where I see a beautiful human female casting magic, the same that took down the drop ship from earlier. I see her unaware of another drop ship approaching her from behind, I leap forward and swiftly pull her out of the range of fire, while raising Nazgiria and swung it at the beam which erupted from the drop ship. The magical blade deflected the beam back at its source and the ship detonated, showering pieces of space bugs over the place.
After Ironclad dispatched the last of the Qulaar we began working with repairing the cannon from the light damages it had taken. Me and the magic user were opening a crate of supplies when I noticed her body seemed a bit tired, she must have been casting very powerful magic for a good while for it to tire her so. "Are you alright mistress?" It is a habit of mine to call a female mistress, I am working my way into letting it go but it might take a while as I am not used to the custom of the realm.
