The Rehabilitation Center at Hollywood Hills is being investigated after eight of the residents of the nursing home died.

The power went out due to Hurricane Irma and the heat was so unbearable the fragile elderly people were baking inside. The home staff sent the worst to the hospital across the street as they struggled to find solutions for air conditioners. They had portable A/C units and fans, but the heat and humidity was too much.

But according to CBS4 Miami reporter Jim DeFede, the center desperately kept calling Florida Gov. Rick Scott begging for help. In fact, they called a full 36 hours prior to the the first death. The reason they were calling Scott was they were told to call a special cell phone that Scott gave out to healthcare executives saying they should call if there are any problems. So, they did exactly that, and no one came to the rescue.

Officials in Manatee County, Florida are under fire after an interpreter for the deaf warned about pizza and monsters during an emergency briefing related to Hurricane Irma.

The interpreter, Marshall Greene, a lifeguard for the county, has a brother who is deaf, according to the DailyMoth, a video news site that provides information via American Sign Language. Greene was used as the interpreter for a Sept. 8 press conference regarding the incoming storm and possible evacuations.

Members of the deaf community said Greene mostly signed gibberish, referencing "pizza," "monsters," and using the phrase "help you at that time to use bear big," during the event. Other information signed to viewers was incomplete, experts said.

Manatee County spokesperson Nick Azzara told the Brandenton Herald Greene was asked to interpret during the update rather than have no one signing.

The Scott administration issued emergency rules requiring all nursing home and assisted living facilities in the state to purchase “ample resources,” including a generator and fuel, in order to maintain operations and “comfortable temperatures” for at least 96 hours after a power outage.

The action will also require each facility to have the generators inspected and an emergency plan approved by the government, according to a press release announcing the measures.

More regulations, thanks to Republicans.

Since I don't speak sign language its all silent gibberish to me anyways. My wife and I were watching one of the governor's interpreters though and were quite distracted by how animated she was.

Unless you can cite sources revealing the content of the telephone calls between the nursing home and the authorities--which I asked you to do and you haven't done--than you are guilty of the same mind reading you complained of in your post.
