I've pointed out on various threads that I have no great love for the Department of Homeland Security, but it's nice to know that they're doing something besides publishing threat assessments. In this case, DHS tipped off the Mounties that skullduggery was afoot.
(The link is MSNBC but the article is from the AP, for those who are tetchy about such things.)
Canadian accused of trying to export nuke parts
Police say Toronto man plotted to send nuclear technology to Iran

Or, if you prefer, here it is from the Canadians, who indicate that there was an eight-week joint investigation between the Mounties and DHS in this case.

Just to calm the government conspiracy theorists a bit, both articles state that the suspect concealed the nature of the devices (pressure transducers) so he could ship them to Dubai without the required permits (oops), and that there is evidence (unspecified) that the final destination was Iran.
It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. Anyone from Canada have an opinion on how well the RCMP prepares its cases?
ETA: I shouldn't have typed "RCMP." Now I have that damned Village People song running thrugh my head...
