A release of carbon dioxide from the deep ocean helped bring an end to the last Ice Age, according to new research led by the University of Southampton.

Published today in Nature, the study shows that carbon stored in an isolated reservoir deep in the Southern Ocean re-connected with the atmosphere, driving a rise in atmospheric CO2 and an increase in global temperatures. The finding gives scientists an insight into how the ocean affects the carbon cycle and climate change.

Yes and the hell of it is that the first thing they tried didn't get any traction despite every kind of propaganda they had!

We were all going to die horribly by freezing to death on another "Ice Ball Earth" back in the sixties.

Was no money in it and the earth refused to cooperate.

So Global warming rode into town...better but still having trouble.

We've repeatedly told him about warming introducing fresh water in the Atlantic which disrupts the current causing a great cooling until the ocean's salinity goes up but he's not buying an ounce of that sort of tarot-card style heresy.

The only thing that matters is a slight increase in CO2 and we're on our way to becoming Venus.

Nothing surprising about the paper. There is ONE tiny problem though. The historical record (ice cores) show that CO2 was a lagging indicator in both the onset of the ice ages and the onset of the inter-glacial's. Meaning that the atmospheric CO2 concentrations increase AFTER the warming (or decreased after the cooling) began. The paper asserts that CO2 was the driving force and if that were true it would be a leading indicator, not lagging.

The paper does NOT assert that C02 was the sole "driving force" as you claim, that's just you wordsmithing and pullin' a Queerbait to restate an inconvenient fact on terms more favorable to your own position. The author clearly states that C02 was ONE of the "driving forceS', which is not news. What's news is there is now further evidence to support this hypothesis.

Scientists have long held that C02 didn't initiate global warming periods, it excaberated them.
