Science-themed Loving Wives Story

I'm looking for a Loving Wives story, not sure when it was written, but it's somewhat in the same vein as In The Name of Science by laptopwriter. The context is that the wife is part of a research team that trying to find a cure for a deadly disease, and she sleeps with one of her fellow researchers because it helps to focus him mentally, and tries to justify it by saying that it'll save millions; sort of a geek variation of the classic adulterous muse trope that you see occasionally in the genre.

I think he said he just wanted to finish it where he did and wanted to open it up to others to do what they wanted with it.
