This is not my genre, but I had a story idea.
Two Sophomores from the University of Scranton live in a gated community in Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania called The Hideout. The boy, Jared, is the stereotypical second string quarterback with perfect teeth. The girl, Marla, is a computer geek he has known since grammar school. The residents of Lake Ariel didn't care for people from The Hideout and so Jared and Marla stuck together for safety and stayed friends over the years. They carpool to the University together.
On one trip in to school, there is a huge explosion near Lake Scranton. Jared turns his truck around. There are other explosions. It's the cars on the road. The students can't tell what is causing the explosions and Jared is not sticking around to find out. He tunes the radio to the news station as he drives towards Lake Wallenpaupack, Pennsylvania. The news reporter on the scene is describing space ships firing lasers at cars and buildings. The reporter's voice gets panicky and then there is static. The news feed was cut off.
Jared drives to a sports and gun shop in Hawley, Pennsylvania. His father works there. Jared picks up weapons and camping equipment. Marla helps him load his truck full of supplies. They quickly empty half of the store. Jared's father gives him a roll of bills from the cash register and sends him off. Jared takes the "back way" towards The Hideout and while it is still in view of his mirrors, the sports shop explodes. Other cars on the road explode as well.
Jared drives off road in the hopes of escaping the certain death that seems to be on his tail. He finds a large orchard and parks under the canopy of trees.
Marla and Jared see several space ships fly overhead. Jared turns off the radio. They watch in absolute silence. Twenty minutes after the last ship passes, Jared turns the radio back on. There is static. He changes stations. Static. He scans. He finds a station but it soon is also static filled. Eventually, all the stations are static.
The cities are gone. There is black smoke in every direction. Marla and Jared eat some of the MREs they got from the sports shop and use the blankets they took. They sleep in the truck. Carefully, Jared drives them north. He wants to get them near fresh water. Scranton has been decimated, but the gorge in Nay Aug Park is still there. The students camp there.
After adjusting to life without technology, Marla quickly learns how to hunt and fish silently. She hugs Jared tightly one day when she thinks she hears an explosion. Jared enjoys the feel of her body and they kiss. Marla is embarrassed when she realizes she heard a tree fall and she breaks away from Jared.
They share other close moments and they eventually make love. Marla is a virgin. Jared is gentle with her. They fuck each other for hours. Marla grows to love the feelings Jared stirs inside her.
They learn to live off the land to conserve rations. Marla discovers she is pregnant. Jared is very protective of her. He wants to be very careful and is refusing to have sex with Marla because he doesn't want to hurt the baby.
Marla insists and they make passionate love to each other. They fall asleep, naked, in each other's arms. Marla lays on top of Jared with her belly to the side so she is comfortable. When she wakes, she is still on top. Jared feels cold. With her eyes still not quite open, she runs her fingers through Jared's hair. She soon realizes that his head is in the wrong place. She opens her eyes and sees he has been beheaded. She screams. Her cries are cut off as a collar is placed around her neck. An alien soldier pulls on the leash attached to Marla's collar. She follows obediently.
She is led through Nay Aug Park to the site of the former Scranton Zoo. She is placed in a cage. She looks around and sees that the other cages are filled with naked, pregnant, women. After three days in a cage, Marla strangles the alien guarding the zoo and takes the keys. She releases the other captives and they head out towards Jared's truck. Marla hopes that the eight pregnant women accompanying her will be able to make it to the mobile store of weapons and seasonal clothing.
It takes the better part of a day, but they reach the truck. The aliens never found it under the cover of leaves Jared had used to hide it. Marla clothes and arms the other women. She teaches them to hunt as she had been taught. They move their base camp further south.
The truck is fired upon as they pass Hamlin, Pennsylvania. Marla drives like a bat out of hell through what was once farm land. Her pursuers are forced to fly low and crash. Marla does not stop. She drives to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. It has been obliterated, but there is still fresh water in what was once the park. The women make camp there.
They are able to live off the land for a few weeks without encountering another soul. Eventually, they are discovered. An angry alien draws a weapon on the women. He grabs Marla and rips the clothing from her body. He has a tight grip on her throat. Marla is certain she is going to die. She hears a high pitched sound and the alien hand lets go of her. The alien hits the ground with a thud.
Marla looks at her fellow fugitives to see who saved her. It was not any of them. She looks over her shoulder. Holding a lethal looking weapon is an alien of another race. He speaks broken English but is able to quote "The enemy of my enemy is my friend."
That's all I have. I know it's not much. Does anyone thing they'd be able to write this? I'd be happy to edit it once it was done. Please let me know.
