I just don't get all the fanfare over Science Fiction stuff. LC started a thread about Dune...blech...I barely made it through the book. Star Wars with Luke and Leia and DV was great - for the first two movies. Anything after that is total overkill.

This is my opinion and I am sticking to it. :)

OK

I will cross your name off for the Star Trek convention reservations you sent me

Congrats...you have an opinion. I happen to like SF.

I hate townhouses

It's like an apartment with a mortgage

I'm with you hunny. For the most part, I can't stand that shiite. I like some fantasy books, but others are just stupid.

I'm with JM. I like sci-fi and fantasy.

I live enough real life that I don't really read that much normal "fiction".

So what do you like?

Is that the rendering of your new townhouse? Cool!

Answering in reverse order...yes.

If I am going to read a book...I want to read a reality-based one. I have gone through stages of things. I loved Sci-Fi at one point...I would read anything and everything. I could never fathom The Hobbit or LOTR, etc. I even liked all the historical romance stuff. Now I like things where I can inject myself inside the story. I can't comprehend the science-fiction end of it so it doesn't appeal to me.

I am not knocking anyone who likes it. I just happen to think it sucks. :)

I like sci-fi, mystery, best seller trash -- anything that gives me an escape. I usually have a subject I am learning about and read extensively on that. Right now it is alternative nutrition.

Clive Cussler Does Too Though:D

It's All About The Read!

I like Piers Anthony. That's more fantasy than sci-fi though, isn't it?

Kick ass!
:D LOL
It's not that I don't like or don't read other stuff but I like my reading to take me away for the normal crap I have to deal with.

Besides the same issues are in all books. A struggle against something. It's just a matter of what.

Si Fi kicks ass. It's like looking into the future. The only thing is, truth will be stranger than fiction.

Now, you can take those chic flicks and shov....... well you know. :)

It depends. He's written boths sides.

the Xanth series was fantasy

Bios of a Space Tyrant ... I'll let you guess what genre that is :)

I like the murder mysteries with a splash of sex thrown in. You know...like Kiss the Girls. Or anything resembling a CSI show in print...

Something that makes you think while you read it.

Sounds like an SF book.

Sci-Fi is just too out there for me. I mean, seriously...after Orwell's 1984, how real can any Sci-Fi be?

I loved the Xanth series. Never read the others.

His other books are so-so. After a while it all starts to sound the same. You can almost feel the formula oozing off the page.

I love Dune. I can't wait for Children of Dune of to start, tonight. Some sci-fi stuff is too out there and not very well put together but others like Dune are great.

Philip K Dick short stories are the best.

The Story To End All Stories For Harlan Ellison's Anthology Dangerous Visions
Philip K Dick

In a hydrogen war ravaged society the nubile young women go down to a futuristic zoo and have sexual intercourse with various deformed and non-human life forms in the cages. In this particular account a woman who has been patched together out of the damaged bodies of several women has intercourse with an alien female, there in the cage, and later on the woman, by means of futuristic science, conceives. The infant is born, and she and the female in the cage fight to see who gets it. The human young woman wins, and promptly eats the offspring, hair, teeth, toes and all. Just after she has finished she discovers that the offspring is God.

That's what I want out of fiction - pure ideas, no bullshit :D

(By the way, that isn't the summary, that is the story itself ;-) )
