Over the past week I have been having flashes of pieces of a story that I cannot remember the name of and it is killing me. At this point I cannot tell whether I am remembering two stories or if is still just a single story. From my memory the story begins with a space ship exploring uncharted space crashing after some sabotage, skip forward to near present time and some lucky guys stumbles upon the ship from before and becomes the captain/admiral. From there friends arequest recruited and the crew expands, fixing any and all old sabotage that remains as they find it. Then the ai is discovered to be an actual living being in a medical pod of sorts woth nano gel with said pod hooked up to the ship. And then more ships are made with volunteers as the ship ai. The other parts I remember that I am having trouble connecting are that the ship, rather than crashing from sabotage was running away from an enemy ship and escaped through a worm hole. The enemy ship is then discovered to have followed them and crashed into either earth's moon or one of the planets and entered a stasis that froze all those aboard the ship. After discovering the enemy ship, the ai for the main ship makes the connection that this may be a different dimension/time line and that the empire that built it does not exist yet. After the encounter with the enemy, a close friend of the main character dies defending him and is given a viking funeral as he wished.
And that's as much as I can remember, I know that it seems like a jumble of everything, but I hope that it is coherent enough and contains enough information for someone to discover what I'm talking about. That is of you don't have anything better to do right now or for a couple hours.
