This is inspired by a couple of recent purchases I've made. I now own the movie Ice Pirates and season one of The Greatest American Hero on DVD. I am such a happy little geek. What are some other shows and movies of similar ilk that people here enjoy?

Oh yeah, I also have Zorro, The Gay Blade on VHS. Not quite sci-fi but just as silly and bad as Ice Pirates and Greatest American Hero. For the other gaming geeks around here, this is a article I wrote a while ago detailing the Magic Jammies of Hero using GURPS. Magic Jammies

Ok

I admit it.
I have a copy of 1984's "Night of the Comet" on video.
I LOVE that movie.
And for all you Star Trek fans, it actually features Robert Beltran (Chakotay, Voyager) before he joined the ST legion.
Also features Catherine Mary Stewart and Kelli Maroney.

It is campy and fun.

The origional "The Thing" from the 1950s, I think. James Arness (Matt Dillon of Gunsmoke) was in the monster suit. Old Sci fi movie, bad effects (but not bad for the 1950s), and much better than the recent redo of it.

"The Day the Earth Stood Still", which is a classic. I forget the year iit came out, but the cover has the alien robot on the front cover. Wasn't that Klatu? Or was that Gork? I forget. Again, bad effects, but OK for the times...but the story plot itself is quite good.

I forget the name of another movie, but I think it was "The Giant Spider" or something like that. The plot had a giant spider that could shoot some sort of laser beam as it went thought town. I only saw it as a kid, in the 50s. I hope I don't have two movies mixed up.

"Attack of the Killer Tomatos" is one of those movies you wander who spent money on. And, "Night of the Lepus" is another. Killer giant tomatos in one and killer giant rabbits in the other. Giant.

Everything that's bad is a giant, or motated oversize, in these movies.

Oh, by the way...I loved "Greatest American Hero" when it was on TV. I watched it religously.

god i love ice pirates...lol, is that a bad thing?

Some other movies i can't seem to pass up on when flicking through the channels are clash of the titans, sinbad, and my all time favorite Dune( the original) which i also have on dvd and vhs.

Some of the early low-budget movies made by legendary filmmakers are pretty high on my tack-o-meter.

Carpenter's Dark Star, last scene especially

Lynch's Eraserhead (I think that was sci fi, or maybe it was goth, but wait, that was long before there was goth, oh who knows I was tripping at the time)

Cox's Eat the Sun

I also like the old Dr. Who's from the 60s and 70s. The special effects are so bad, the props so cheap, but the actors do a good job with what they are given.

A film from a more recent era, Lollipop, is kind of a silly Flowers for Algernon redeaux.

Finally, one of my all time favorite camp sci-fi flicks is Spirit of 76. If you like the 70s, you need to see this movie.

Too Too many to list,

Ice Pirates, good flick

Dark Star...I thought I was the only person who ever saw that:p

Flash Gordon....Ahhhh ahh

Loved Night of the Comet, and CMS's follow up...The Last Starfighter

I have The day the Earth stood still, and yes the robot was Gort, and his command was Klaatu Verada Necto, or as Bruce Campbell would say "Klaatu Verada....Necktie"

Ever see Lazer Blast? cheeze at it's finest

And the all time best Cheezy Horror/Scifi movie ever made....Bad Taste....if you haven't seen it, try to find a copy, it rocks.

I love Night of the Comet.

It's been a really long time since I've seen any of those older movies. No one seems to play old sci-fi movies on Saturday or Sunday afternoons anymore. That's when I used to watch them. Like the original movie with Robbie the Robot. I can't remember the film title anymore.

The old Dr. Who's were great. I also liked the Tomorrow People and Blake's 7.

Dark Star . . . the Spaced-Out Comedy . . . all the way! Best, campiest, stoopidest sci-fi movie of all time!!!

Forbidden Planet

I prefer Red Dwarf to Blakes 7, and have never seen Tomorrow People

Ah, yes. Thanks.

And, I have seen Lazar Blast, and you're correct.

And, Dr. Who is also great.

There is already a thread about Si Fi movies and TV out there, if you all didn't know. There's nothing wrong with this one, though. The older thread is probably a year or so back...maybe a little less?

i remember that movie.

Any of the Fay Wray "classics" work for me, but there are a few standouts. "Black Moon" was awesome on a weird way; she was also in the original "King Kong" aka "the Eigth Wonder of the World." Otherwise, "Time Bandits" works for me, but that might be more in the fantasy genre. So does "Starship Troupers."

I can't believe I almost forgot Cannibal Women of the Avacado Jungle!! It's a spoof of your basic B grade action-adventure, science fiction/fantasy film. If you've still got a video machine handy, you'll want to rent it on cassette to get the full sound. The DVD is in mono-sound.

As Ghosst would say- "Shop smart, shop S-Mart"

How come nobody has mentioned Godzilla yet? Or some of my personal favorites, most any movie ahh, "redubbed" by Mystery Science Theater 3000.

And I too watched not only "Greatest American Hero" but also Dr Who, at least through the first few Doctors.

Hey, no 6 million Dollar Man mention yet either, or Twilight Zone, or Night Gallery.

I just got the Munsters First Season DVD set, that show is still funny. I see that "The Night Stalker" series is also out now, another one that I used to stay up late for.

Quite a few, when you think about it.

The Night Stalker was awesomely bad, I loved it, and still watch it on SciFi when I'm home, and it's on.

The Munsters was pure camp, and very enjoyable, same as the Aadams Family.

I don't think I'd call Twilight Zone, or Outer Limits bad, they were great in their day, and stand the test of time.

MST3K was an ok show, but Mad Movies was much better, if you've never seen it, they would take old black and white movies, completely remove the sound track, and make up their own dialog. It was funny as hell.

Never have seen Mad Movies, were they a Sci Fi or Comedy channel offering?

And you are correct, Twilight Zone and Outer Limits are on the opposite end of the spectrum regarding quality!

Actually they were a PBS offering, and the last time I saw one was in the mid 80's
