Warning, this is going to be a total bitchfest on my part. I just needed a place to rant so if you read on don't say I didn't warn you. Thanks!

The Financial Aid office at my school is a bunch of inept, fucking, morons!!! I've been trying to get ahold of them for weeks but getting someone on the phone is nigh unto impossible unless you have more than an hour to wait on hold and due to my work schedule clashing with their hours of availability I haven't been able to go up there in person.

The reason I've been trying to get ahold of them is that while my grant information is appearing on the school website there has been nothing about my student loans and I was/am worried about my tuition and how I'll pay for books. Well this morning some trickster god was smiling on me because I finally got a person on the damned phone! Only to be told that there was yet ANOTHER damned form to be filled out and that I hadn't completed it. This of course confused and annoyed me because along with out award information the website includes a list of form that we need to fill out for our FA and this form wasn't on it!

The girls response when I asked why no one had told me about this form, "Oh well we didn't know you wanted student loans so we just didn't post it."

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

I've gotten loans every term for the last 5 and am now on my final 2 (and most expensive) nothing in my FAFSA has changed so what the fuck would make them think that miraculously I wouldn't want my damned loans anymore? Why didn't common sense tell them that if I am applying for FA perhaps it would just make sense to put the damned form on the "to do" list so that if I wanted loans I would know there was another form to fill out and if not I could ignore it?

Rant over, sorry I just needed to vent.

Awww, thanks Daddy. It's just frustrating because if I don't get my loans I can't afford school this fall which means having to wait til next fall to start my program. I don't wanna hang out in the cursed state for a whole other year if I can avoid it.

~sighs~ God hates me.

My hubby went through that a couple times with his student loans. It can be very frustrating for someone who isn't really sure what i's need to be dotted, and what t's need to be crossed.

My sympathy, caela.

help u

I'm sorry to hear ur angry.

Would u like to suck on something to make ur anger disappear? :D

Good luck, college sux.

 :rose:

Thanks La Kajira. I think the real frustration is that they changed the i's and t's and didn't tell me. The form was one I've never filled out before.

I'm sorry to hear all that happened. I had something similar happen. According to my FAFSA information I was elligible for the Pell Grant and it was going to be enough for tuition and my Dad was going to cover for books (I only needed $150 worth of them, which as college buffs know is a small fare for books) But the school wanted me to file for financial aid through their office too and I was waay late on my registration (I had only just been offered my job in one of thier labs provided I was enrolled) so my application when straight to the bottom of the pile. I knew my Grant wouldn't be recognized through them until they filed the papers so I wouldn't see any of the money until waaaay after I needed it for tuition. So I applied for a loan at a local bank. To make a huge pain in the ass misunderstanding short my loan cancelled out my grant and my grant cancelled out my loan so I had no money for tuition my classes got dropped and I lost my job. yeah, school is fun

Ouch! That sucks TS!!! School can be such a pain in the ass but with only two semesters left I can afford to cop out now. Will be happy when I graduate in June!!

I'm in my internship, final semester, and just a day or two before the semester begins I receive a letter saying that due to only being enrolled for one semester (my bad, I finally made it to graduation at 36) they are splitting the award of financial aid. I'll get 1/2 of the semester immediately (which will cover the $2400 tuition, maybe) and then the other 1/2 10 weeks in to the semester, which is only 15 weeks long in the first place. Meanwhile I'm paying interest on it I'm sure.

Hmm. You know, here in Canada if you can prove you have a disability that prevents you from taking a full load of classes (this includes things such as mood disorders, which sap your energy) you can apply and then get the FULL-time tax credit even though you're only part time. I guess the theory here is that you're working harder than the average schmuck to get your degree and not be a drain on society on disablility, so you deserve the full tax credit. I never bothered, but I could have.

Not that all people on disability are a drain on society, I just know a few personally who are.

Maybe there's something like that for you, though i guess that would only matter if it's retroactive.

That's a great idea. In the US, I'm really not sure how financial aid for students with disabilities works. I've only had friends who were visually or auditorily impaired so they had specific local agencies that secured their school tuition and living expenses.

I'm taking a full load for the semester, just only taking one semester in the school's financial year, as opposed to the usual two. I'll live, just poorly. Upside, I'll have the $$ by Christmas.

Isn't that the truth. I did get my financial aid last term but now they are trying to dick me around again this term. They tried to tell me that I didn't have enough financial aid credits left this term. Did they bother to inform me of this in any way - letter, a notation on the financial aid page of the website? - nope. I found out when my aid didn't get applied and I called to find out.

Well I took in all my paperwork and proved them wrong last week and was told I'd have my check this week. So being the distrusting wench that I am I've been watching the FA page of the website and my aid still hasn't been applied. Going into the office today I was told that I won't get my check this week but that it would be another 1-3 weeks before I see the money I need for books, supplies, and to help pay my rent and bills.

The fuck up and I am the one that gets screwed.

I am not a happy girl and if I wasn't graduating this semester I'd seriously consider just dropping out, moving and starting over somewhere else.
