I might or might not be alone but have you noticed that Scfi like Star Wars and sex go hand in hand

Not really.

Sci-Fi and Sex (and Fantasy and Sex) are more about keeping the Male 15-35 demographic happy and masturbating over the Nearly Naked Fantasy Women (NNFWs) depicted in each genre. I mean, have you seen Skyrim? Nobody but nobody plays the hulking bearded male characters, they all play women dressed in Power Thong Armour.

Really - Leia wears tights when she's not wearing chains and is invincible while Storm Troopers wear ineffective armour which doesn't even stop small rocks thrown by teddy bears from killing them.

Most movie plots build up and end like sex. Usually in movies and sometimes in sex lots of screaming accompanies the climax. They are selling sex, love, hate and/or moral stories. They have to get to you emotionally. Have you holding your breath in anticipation or panting away with the protagonist.

Star Wars coined the term "the stromtrooper effect". Crack Imperial Stormtroopers can with great precision take out a Jawa sandcrawler but can't hit the broadside of a Millenium Falcon with a blaster at 20m.

The lack of a character system in Skyrim leads to a more general type character. Tanks have limitations. Magic can replace armour. And yes, the game is probably marketed to a certain buying group. But that's a huge social issue on par with 'why do Star Trek females all have big boobs'.

well, you can't make your character lez out if you're playing a dude. it's just common sense.

and star wars isn't science fiction.

Thor! Serious eye candy, not that I go for that sort of thing ;)

Even though he's in an off-Earth realm, Thor's not actually sci-fi. Technically he belongs to the "superhero" genre.

But if you're happily rubbing one out to the God of Thunder when he lays down the hammer, I'm not gonna say you're totally wrong! :D

I've seen this argument, starwars sci-fi?, hashed out many times on many different forums over the years. This is going to go on forever unless you guys just agree to disagree.

It's not hard sci-fi, but it's not just fantasy.

It's been called fantasy in a sci fi setting.

Makes me wonder, is there any sci fi in a fantasy setting? Elves, goblins, dragons and shit... plus holodecks, space ships, AI's, lasers et cetera. I'd read and/or watch that.

it's more just fantasy full stop. the only thing even vaguely scifi about it is it's in space and there spaceships, robots and laser swords. there's no attempt at anything even vaguely realistic, though. see jango fett trying to kill obi won with seismic charges in an awesomely stupid scene set in the vacuum of space.face it, star wars is some silly shit.

The Ewoks were very advanced technologically, as evidenced by the hang-gliders with enough lift to carry an Ewok holding a boulder, and the rigging of two swinging logs that get released with enough precision to hit the same chicken walker from two directions at the same instant.
