That's what drove me off Dean Koontz. A few too many yucky "be a really really good person and God will bail you out" moments in his later books.

Horror desperately needs a fresh infusion of blood as far as I'm concerned.

Books dont do it for me in terms of fear.

When I was 16 I came upon a suicide attempt out in the woods. I was in combat. And a schizophrenic with a knife took me hostage.

I talked two men out of blowing their brains out, and I talked a woman out of murdering her kids.

Koontz' best story, IMO, was Night Chills. If you've never read it, find it. But for those of you with small children, be forewarned.

I'll never read Ann Rice.
