I've written several stories that have been posted (thank you lits). One was done in haste and was intended as a scenario for a porn flick and was in fact submitted to several production houses - and rejected (ah well). It is not particularly good as sex but it gets hit after hit after hit.

The ones I like, the ones that present what I feel to be real sex are largely ignored and given low ratings, although they are as graphic as one could wish for.

Is it that no one is interested in real sex - warmth, kindness, affection?

What does make erotica erotic?

Maybe it's the titles. Seems like there was a thread on the titles of stories here while back. If the title is catchy, then people will read it. If it's a real "brainy" type of title, it may not get a lot of immediate hits and be a slow starter.

Welcome to Lit :)

You may be right. However a title like "I Want to Cum All Over Your Fuckin' Tits" does not describe what I am attempting to achieve, which is to create as much of the tactile sensations of "regular" sex as possible.

Admittedly, my tastes are relatively tame for lits. A chacun a son gout and I make no judgments nor cast aspersions. Whatever gets you through the night.

But I think (perhaps immodestly) that I write pretty good porn. What I need to work with now is the lead-ins, which is part of my long term strategy in autodidactic porn.

I would appreciate feedback if some kind person could review my work.

Thanks for taking the time to respond

I disagree slightly. I think it might be your description of the stories though I am not as an experienced writer.I loved the massage story too, very sensual though it did seem a bit one sided.

The story was intentionally one sided. Too much erotica is written for men and I deliberately chose to focus on the woman's pleasure. Besides which - who said the authorial "I" wasn't having fun? Personally I enjoy cunilingus as much or more than "poking".

"Carrie's Game" is more balanced in that respect with sex enjoyed by both parties.

Where I think I have to do more is in the set up of the stories. I am usually limited by time and have to move to the meat (pardon the expression) quickly. One day I hope to be able to write about an entire day culmination in great sex, but the editing and rewrites would take about a week.

I agree too much is written for guys and not enough for women esp since generally speaking women are more auditory and men more visually stimulated.
You do have to set the stage but perhaps for the lit type readers you could get by with less plot. I read two stories recently that had me totally hooked. I haven;t had time to analyze why yet but you might read them? I think they were titled The Babysitter 1 and 2.
It is also true that writing quality stories takes time, and we all have our work to do in the world. I can't tell you how many times I have been in middle of writing a great story and one of my beloved children needs a sandwich or a boo boo kissed or whatever.Duty calls regardless of what your occupation. Wouldn't it be great if we could just sit around a write stories and read them of course:;) but then maybe it wouldn't be so appealing.Hmm.A side note I love taking are of my kids and am blessed to have the oppourtunity to do so.w Just so you don't get the wrong idea
Anyway I look forward to more of your stories:)

Speaking from my own limited experience, the stories I've written where you just dive right in with the sex with little or no prelude tend to get higher votes. The most well-written story I posted on the site had a long set up, and not a lot of sex, and it got votes of about 3. Another story I posted was just as long, but sex all the way, and it got votes of about 4.25. From this I have determined that while the site is called Literotica, folks are much more interested in the erotica than the literature.

Rusher
I agree, if I am looking for plot I will choose a book if I am looking for a hot story I log on to literotica.I do however agree with Lord Wolf "I Want To Come All Over Your Tits" is not a story I would choose to read but to each his or her own.

I guess there is no magic formula. My favourite collection is "Ladies Home Erotica" which was produced my women who met for tea and the writing of erotic material.

I tend to jump right in, because newbie writers are encouraged to "write about what they know" At 50+ years I know sex and I love and like women, so I write about what I hope will turn them on.

As for many, but thankfully not all, men, place a blonde wig on a rat's ass and they'll date it.

I really don't get off on stories were women play a subservient role or are subjected to humiliation and abuse.

It may even be the woman's prederence but when it comes to sex, I believe in equal opportunity.

Catchy Titles

I believe a good "catchy" title is important to attracting the reader to a story. Once you have established a "following" and have several people who enjoy reading your stories, then perhaps the titles arn't as important. But starting out, I think it is an important tool to lure the reader and interest them into stoping in to see what you're all about.

I also think...the shorter titles the better. If you're going to invest time into writing a story. Invest time into considering what you want to call it.

And one more thing. I've written several stories only to go back and change the title after I've written them. Oft times the "real" title of a story will pop out and become very obvious once you've written something.

To sleep.........perchance to dream - William Shakespear

There is some truth there. I frequently find that the opening paragraph to a story doesn't usually appear until I'm about 300 words into it.

The basic problem is, and this can be confirmed by a casual perusal of the titles at any adult video store, that peoples' sexual responses are all over the map, and I begin to think that a title to draw attention to the story without violating its overall ambience is more a matter of luck than anything. I hate my story "Creaming for ICe Cream" It needs to be totally re-written and is aimed for the average hard core movie fan. It drew 35 hits. The rating is higher than I would give it.

The others, aimed at adult women, draw very little attention, and yet are better written. And no one reads poetry!

Finding the right title or description seems to be the hardest part. I'm new at this but the stories almost write themselves..... and then they sit around on my computer waiting for a name. So far it's been fun and I expect the titles to come more easily with experience.

Titles are still the hardest thing for me to come up with. *sigh*

I try to look for a phrase with an action verb or action adverb in it. The "noun" and "Jennifer's Fist Fuck" just get lost in the numerous Jennifer's first time and The '57 Chevy. Of course, my titles, most memorably Throbbing in his Jeans are STUPID. So don't take my advice. *winces*

*Chuckle* Don't be so hard on yourself. I haven't read the story but the title is good for a laugh (... with you, not at you).

say what

I kind of like the title. It makes me smile, even laugh but then I'd read it. What girl can resist a guy "Throbbing in His Jeans"?:) Since the objective is to draw people in I think you've done it.
