any men here taking saw palmetto? my doctor just told me to start taking it and i was wondering if anyone here is taking it and what effects it has on them?

Yes I do.

I take you have prostrate or urinary problems?

No side effects that I know of. I take 1000mg once a day as that seems to work best for me.

Make it a hell of a lot easier to walk, piss, and fuck!

Most people take with some additives. I'll go get you some links.

the ones i have says to take 1-2 capsales 3 time a day. and there 500 milg the thing is im only 31 and i never had this problem until i hurt my back a year ago ever since then i cant go to the bathroom right or get it up right. when it does get hard it either dosnt get hard all the way or it goes limp within a min after it gets hard.

I had the self same problem after I injured my back at age 25... so age isnt the problem....

Problem is there are zillions of nerve endings and stuff that run through your lower spine. (Imagine one of the looms of electrical wire in your car and multiply it a couple of hundred times). Just pinching a nerve when the lower back is injured can have a huge effect.....

I honestly wish someone had told me about Saw Palmeto when I was 25... Things would have been a lot different !

If the doc is recommending it, go with it... After all, what is there to lose ? Besides, now am in me mid 40's and have been there with prostate problems... I gotta tell ya, yer dont want em !

no kidding thats why im taking them is because of prostate problems. feel like im getting old.

Well, 31 isnt exactly old, and its a common misconception that prostate problems are an old mans problem. Yeah, it mostly affects guys 50+, but they arent confined to that age group.

The way I look at it, I am kind of special because mine started in my early 40s... So am ten years ahead of everyone else.

Mind you, had I been aware of stuff like Saw Palmeto at your age, then maybe I wouldnt have had the problems I've had.

Looking back at it, I reckon a lot of the problems are/were psychological too. I had a bout of prostatitis, which affected performance. eg: I'd get an erection that was only about 80% of the way there, then I'd lose it completely. Kind of demoralising... So the next time, my head is saying to me "err, we lost this last time, so maybe we will lose it this time".... Almost inevitably, gravity seems to take over and I lost it again.... So that "reinforced" the theory that I had erection problems... and so it goes on. The more I'd worry about it, the more problems I had...

I went through all sorts of personal trauma just thinking about the next time.....

However, I have an incredibly loving and supportive partner, and with her help we have worked through the problem, reinforcing the successes, and discarding the "failures". Now am back firing on all cylinders again.... We discarded all of the thoughts about "performance and penetration" and just concentrated on having a loving, caring and intensely enjoyable time....

thats what i thought at first was worry problems but when i had a mri done on my back they found severe nerve damage that cant be corrected. oh well i guess ill have to get the wife a new toy.

I can understand your point of view. In 1984, when I first injured my spine, the doctors told me I would be in a wheelchair by the time I was 40. As you can imagine, this was not the news a 25 year old "in his prime" wanted to hear. So since then, I've done anything and everything I can to prove the doctors wrong. The only time I use a wheelchair, is when I've been sat on a plane for 10 hours... Here I am, coming up for six years past the point where the doctors predicted I would lose the use of my legs, and I still go to the gym four times a week, do my own "fix it" jobs around the house, and walk just about everywhere...

I do have some tricks up my sleeve, like seeing an osteopath once a month for a "crunch", but other than that, life goes on as normal !

Seems to me the doctors got it well wrong !

Just wondering..could saw palmetto be to increade sex drive in a male or female..or just as a preventative measure for prostate health?

Most of the males in my family have died from prostate cancer and my brothers are too stubborn and "manly" to get checked by a doc on a regular basis...was wondering if using this might help them at least do something positive to help their health?

Of course it can be used as a preventative.... after all, theres nothing to lose and everything to gain.

I suspect the males in your family are a little concerned about dropping their drawers, and having the doc "explore"..... but they need not worry. There is a simple blood test, called the PSA test, which can be done and checks for a Prostate Specific Antibody (Hence PSA) which indicates prostate problems.

As there is a history of Prostate Cancer in the family, then it shouldnt be a problem getting one done.

As for increasing sex drive, I honestly dont know.... All I know is mine certainly isnt diminished in any way.
