We're in a drought and then some - level 5 water restrictions. Spot cleaning cars, 4 min showers etc.

Anyone got some water saving ideas?

I just saw one on the TV where they said put a bucket under your shower head to collect the water until it warms up.

Bucket under the shower tap saves the water to wash the car with! Use environamental soap/shampoo and you can even use it to water your plants.

Put a barrel under your gutter pipes to collect any water that comes down for watering yards and plants etc.

I suppose I will be viewed as picking a fight here and with a 'newbie' no less, but so be it.

We are, my dear, homo sapiens, we don't adapt to droughts or nature in general, we modify it and over come shortages by ingenuity and innovation.

Conservation and rationing are a 'pussified' passive, reactive stance that I personally find repulsive.

Drill another damned well and tap the water table. Dam a river and create a reservoir, build a nuclear plant and desalinate the ocean if nearby, collect and store rainwater and snowmelt, dozens of 'proactive' ways to manage the environment to satisfy the needs of man.

But then, you most likely don't have a clue.

Nevermind...

Naah, Wistful is an oldbie with a new login. So you're just picking a fight in general.

"Drill another hole" and "dam another river" are nice solutions. But hardly for this one person, short term, to handle the situation at hand, now is it?

Besides, "drill another hole" is not always likely to work. I've tried that, and all we ended up with was two places to pump up the same amount of water. But as you say, human kind is pretty resourceful sometimes. We ended up roughly purifying salt water to hose the crops with, and saved the ground water for drinking.

It took a year and a half to get the system going though. So as I said... politics won't solve the immediate problem.

Hello, Liar, thanks, yes, I fully know some things can't be corrected by human ingenuity....

Some geological time ago, the axis of the earth shifted and the Sahara Desert came into being. Unless mankind can perfect 'terra-forming' and weather modification, those inhabitants in and near the Sahara, will conserve and adapt.

And I openly confess to picking a fight in general, as I disagree with a particular mindset. Would you know of Dubai, by any chance?

A middle east nation existing on diminishing oil revenue has created a tourist mecca by building artificial islands as a foundation for their economy.

Man can do almost anything to manage and control his environment to suit his needs. I just quiver at the sight of 'wishfullthinking' as she collects water in a bucket from under her shower as a way of life.

I am a man and no one seems to appreciate a 'man's' view of the world anymore, they seem to have no pride in it, nor do they advocate it.

I do.

I buy a piece of land and change and modify it in my vision. I look around and choose a woman to please me and my needs, not hers. I manage, control and direct my life and I suggest other males remember how it used to be, and do the same.

And it has been a pretty damned good life, if I do say so.

*giggles* I just can't help it, I have to say it....its going to get me tarred and feathered but ah well.

I've not seen very many who would fight over a bucket of water possibly being saved. :D ;)

Amicus darlin, you are just to cute for words sometimes...and you do so amuse me

Less cute and more naive, although I agree it's amusing. Like reading Victorian manuals on etiquette :D

Chantilly vamp...vermilion...always pleased to amuse, or to be perceived as 'naive', but you really know it ain't so.

One fine day (song) the ole amicus will ephipanize you in a blinding light and you will gasp and utter: "oh my fucking god"...

but...(elipses noted) I will not hold my breath.

I don't need enlightening. I was referring not to the epiphany, but to the 'oh my fucking god' line.
tut tut - not paying attention? You won;t win arguments that way, you know.

One cannot win an argument with a liberal, as they hold no concept to be either right or wrong.

Something like the twits and twats who suggested not keeping score in a little league baseball game so there would be no losers.

I don't suppose you see that either.

Ah, Chantillyvamp, m'dear, how does 24.2 cm X 7.1 cm dilation tickle ya, ah, well, being a transplanted pea picker to a Limey, you may have to convert....

but then...they always said 'size doesn't matter'..."? supposing one had both the size and the ability to use it?

Are you calling me a liberal or a twat? Your phrasing was a little incoherent.

I'm not sure from what you derive either judgment, but just to refer to your example I think healthy competition is a good idea. Life is a competition and, as long as extreme pressure isn't applied, competitive sports (or other competition) can encourage children to find the best in themselves and see what they can achieve when they try.

So which am I? A liberal or a twat?
