This has to be the best Mom dies and middle class girl goes to live with Father who is the only white man in da hood, gives up ballet for hip hop then realizes she really wants to do ballet and pursues her dream movie that MTV ever made.

Couldn't understand half of what was said due to the ebonics, but I was struck by the intense racism shown by the black people in the movie.

What did you think?

Never seen it

Sounds awfully chick-flick-ish to me.

I don't do chick-flicks.

But I did see "Planet of the Apes"--

It's got Julia Stiles

That's reason enough for me to check it out.

Hot monkey love!

Even hidden in a monkey suit couldn't hide the fact that Helena Bonham Carter is a major babe.

THanks for the image

Hot monkey love, DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!

Probably get flamed for this but.....Intense racism by the black people? From experience "not black by the way" it's a lot more intense from the opposite side guess it's not so obvious to people from that side though.

Yeah, that's it, I didn't see it because I'm white.

My wife, who happens to be black, also felt that the racism shown by the black characters was pure hatred. So did several of our black friends.
The good thing is they did reform by the end of the movie.

Thanks for playing though.

I understood the half you didn't and still thought it was a good movie. Yes, the black teenagers are racist, some also are criminals, one's a bad father, and I believe there was a scene where one gentleman slaps his girlfriend around.

ok, I guess I dont gotta see it now

:p

It was well done for MTV, and was a good movie in some aspects, but it was a bit of a formulaic plot (ok, nvm, it was aimed at teenagers, so of course it can't have a plot, sorry thought the movie makers might have given young people some credit. oops) and the way that they neatly side stepped making any actual msg with the most dramatic scenes by passing them off or having one charactor or another leave did make it rather dull whitted. The dancing was well shot, the music is good, they actually show some emotion, so all and all, it is a "wait until you have the flu and would not be able to watch "Shadow of A Vampire" because you are too spaced on meds to get the plot" movie. That is just my opinion
