My experience with coastal GA is the opposite. I wasn't in St. Simons an hour before I was asked to a gentleman's room. Seemed very open folk to me. Savannah seems warm and friendly. Athens is wide open. A college town is always more accepting than other towns. I love it here.

Could be that you just haven't met the right ones yet. Old South can be very stoic on the outside. You have to get to know them. Have you met anyone online close enough to meet in person.
