Satan himself in the smoke?

Damn, the link doesn't seem to be working anymore. But it was an eerie picture in the smoke of the burning WTC that looked like the head of Satan himself.

i just tried to load the link it didnt work for me either .... probably for the best those types of things freak me out and im easierly freaked lately

There is a link to this in a Colorado news site as well. I'll see if I can dig it up again.

I saw this yesterday. I did not post it cause it was just to feaky for me. If you go to CNN's website and look at the film for the second attack you can see it form. There are also some other pictures that show a whole body in the smoke. I think the face shows up at around the 24 second mark.

When I look at my electrical socket I see a face, does that mean satan is staring at me? Err.. nope.

The human brain is rigged to find faces. I used to draw random squiggly shapes and add a dot or two for eyes and people would always see a face. I've looked in clouds and seen faces, any thick smoke cloud will have a face if you look long enough.

I don't really believe in Satan, but still, I saved that picture on my computer. Just too weird, too defined.

i agree with never ... its weird still but its just because there was so many camera's focused on the fire and smoke it was bound to pick up something like this

and the human brain is designed to see images like this

does anyone remember something else like this happening i remember seeing photos like this when something else happened but i cant remember right now

I've seen pictures like this for:
OKC Bombing.
The face on Mars.
The two A-Bombs.
and Waco.

Oh, and 'sex' in the Lion King.

LOL @ Never! I have wood paneling in my hallway and alternately I *see* 2 women who look like they could be sisters, a growling tiger, a clown and a man who looks suspiciously like my 7th grade Algebra teacher.

Sexy-girl - most famous is the Shroud of Turin and various and sundry images of Jesus on billboards, building walls and (I swear I am not making this up) candy wrappers.

But then I also see figures in clouds...

Still, it's interesting and fun to watch.

I SAW THE SAME FACE IN SOME MOLD THAT WAS GROWING BEHIND MY REFRIGERATOR.

OH

MY

GOD!!!!

I better call my telephone psychic and try to find out what all this must mean.

. o O ( Did it just get nerdier in here? ) O o .

It's a creepy picture, but now, in the spirit of ruining everyone's fun, I'm going to go off on a ramble inspired by pure, unadulterated academic geekery.

The characterization of Satan as a horned figure with cloven hooves is an invention of human beings, brought about during the spread of Christianity in Europe during the Middle Ages.

The Gauls and Celts had a god named Cernnunos, who was depicted as a horned man with cloven hooves, kind of like a satyr, a Greek mythical figure associated with nature.

Quoting an article from Dr. Anthony E. Smith on pantheon.org:

"The Horned One" is a Celtic god of fertility, life, animals, wealth, and the underworld. He was worshipped all over Gaul, and his cult spread into Britain as well. Cernunnos is depicted with the antlers of a stag, sometimes carries a purse filled with coin. The Horned God is born at the winter solstice, marries the goddess at Beltane, and dies at the summer solstice. He alternates with the goddess of the moon in ruling over life and death, continuing the cycle of death, rebirth and reincarnation.

Paleolithic cave paintings found in France that depict a stag standing upright or a man dressed in stag costume seem to indicate that Cernunnos' origins date to those times. Romans sometimes portrayed him with three cranes flying above his head. Known to the Druids as Hu Gadarn. God of the underworld and astral planes. The consort of the great goddess. He was often depicted holding a bag of money, or accompanied by a ram-headed serpent and a stag. Most notably is the famous Gundestrup cauldron discovered in Denmark.

When Christianity was spreading through the Celtic world, certain aspects of paganism were given a less than flattering slant. Given his association with the underworld, this resulted in the image of Cernnunos being associated with the Devil, and the rest is, as they say, history.

So. Creepy picture? Yes. The face of Satan? No.

I'm going to have to disagree with you here, the figure of 'Satan' was characterized as a horned, goatlike figure long before the spread of Christianity in Europe. That characterization simply didn't gain popularity until the Church began to demonize the 'pagan' gods like Pan and Cernnunos.

The modern figure of Satan is a compilation of several demonic figures that plagued the Middle East. Among them is Azazel, the king of the seirim, a species of goat-like spirits that dwelled in the desert. On the Day of Atonement two goats were brought to the tabernacles, one goat was sacrificed to Yahweh, and the other took on the sins of the people and was sacrificed to Azazel. (Here we get the phrase 'scapegoat')

Leviticus 16:8

And Aaron shall cast lots upon two goats; one for the Lord, and the other for Azazel. And Aaron shall bring the goat upon which the Lord's lot fell and offer him for a sin offering. But the goat on which the lot fell for Azazel, shall be presented alive to the Lord, to make atonement with him and to let him go to Azazel in the desert.

Later Azazel's importance waned and his role as archdemon was taken up by Satan, as well as his goatlike vestige.
