Sappho was an Ancient Greek lyric poet from the city of Eressos on the island of Lesbos, which was a cultural centre in the 7th century BC.
In Greek mythology, Eros was the god responsible for lust, love, and sex; he was also worshipped as a fertility deity.
Sappho and Eros
1. Write a NEW poem about love, LOVE love that would make Sappho and Eros proud. No other restrictions. Must be an original work.
2. Send the poem to Sappho and Eros via pm by Feb 1, midnight GST Only one poem per poet will be entered into the contest. All other entries will be posted in an Exhibition thread, in which the votes will not be counted towards the final voting, and will not be eligible for the prize.
3. We will post them, in the order in which they were received and anonomously on Feb. 2.
4. Anyone will be able to vote on his or her 2 favorite poems per voting thread. Primary voting: Feb 2-8. NOTE: You will be given the option to choose 2 poems in the Poll. You will not be able to reply twice to the same thread. You can practice on the poll I will attach to this thread.
5. Two highest scoring poems from each voting thread will proceed to the finals. If there is a tie, all of the tied poems will be included in the finals.
6. Anyone who submitted a poem may vote in the finals. If you submit under more than one screen name, we will ask for your honesty in only voting once during the preliminaries and the finals.
7. Finals Voting: Feb 10-13
8. Winners announced Feb. 14
*Anon. donators will be providing small prizes to the top 2 poems*
