Perhaps I am feeling more down than I should be. I'm blaming it on this nearly neverending night I'm trapped in as the solstice nears. It's nearing 8 am mountain time right now and it's dark outside. It will be dark for about another 20 minutes and then I can watch the sun peek up. The joy of it is that, most of the time, the sky is a sapphire blue for the few short hours we face Sol. It will be dark again by around 3:30 pm.

So, let's have a Same Title Challenge and simply title our poems Solstice. I know you're just aching to see them all on the 22nd, Darkmaas included.

The challenge:
  • Title- Solstice
  • Submission deadline: Sunday the 21st of December
  • Posting date: Monday the 22nd
I sure hope you want to play.

Maybe I can come up with something for this one....

Main Entry: sol·stice
Pronunciation: 'säl-st&s, 'sOl-, 'sol-
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Old French, from Latin solstitium, from sol sun + -stit-, -stes standing; akin to Latin stare to stand Date: 13th century
1 : either of the two points on the ecliptic at which its distance from the celestial equator is greatest and which is reached by the sun each year about June 22d and December 22d
2 : the time of the sun's passing a solstice which occurs about June 22d to begin summer in the northern hemisphere and about December 22d to begin winter in the northern hemisphere

Good title, I might bite if I'm here to post that day. Lin and I may be with her folks in Norway over that weekend.

She's there now, that's why she's not pestering this lot at the moment. And that's why I'm pestering you all the more. Got nothing better to do.

So I'm gloomy for all different reasons than Carrie, it seems. This eternal night don't bother me. Nobody to hug, that's a bummer.

Wondered where our buddy Lin was. :)

By the way, there seems to be a man stuck in your uh top layer.
:p

Damn, I was hoping it was the bottom end of Lauren.

With extra pillow-padding of course. ;)

You took the words right out of my mouth.

Give her a hug for us when you're with her, Ice!

If Santa is anything like me, he's thinking 'Mmmmm... Ice-cream!'

I hear you ;) It's the same in the home of Starbuck's. I go to work in the dark and come home in the dark. It's dark at 4pm in Seattle, but unfortunately the clichés of this place are mostly true, meaning, I don't have the luxury of a saphire blue sky. So it is fitting that I choose this same title challenge as my first to do and posting on the longest night of the year as well.

I wrote a poem called The Equinox Experiment does that count? :D
I will try to see if I can find my muse and wake it up. I have not felt very creative since my data and my health (the flu) crashed and burned about the same time. :(
If I can then I am in. I like the topic.

Regards, Rybka

Lighting My Night

I'm feeling better already. I knew there were other diurnal critters out there who miss the light. Don't forget to take your cod liver oil capsules and to go lie about in a tanning bed. 'Betcha feel better! I do.

I know there are others who must want to welcome the rebirth of the northern sun with a poem! And what about the down-underers <such a thing?> It's soon the longest day of your year. Come on everyone! Down or up, cold or hot; we must have more than seven who 'feel the need' kickin' 'round here.

of course I just see it now, and I'm in the middle of a stained glass project and a pastel drawing, for fuck's sake...

I'll see if I can pull one outta my ass, or at least write one. <grin>
