For those publishing stories, how have your sales been at both Amazon and B&N? My books started out selling quickly on Amazon and have really taken off. *knocks wood* Within the last week I began posting books on B&N and my sales are just a trickle.

I think that B&N's Nook market share will make a good step forward with Christmas sales, so I'm hoping that I'll see some growth there.

On a side note, has anyone else had incest related titles pulled from Amazon aside from our most famous and well publicized Selena Kitt?

B&N is hardly even trying for the e-book market (for example, its Fictionwise e-book store hasn't accepted any new publishers since last summer). B&N can't compete with Amazon either in e-books or e-readers.

B&N has PUBIT now, so anyone can self-publish there. That's good news. The bad news is that their search engine sucks - it's got nowhere near Amazon's power. So if you don't do well in searches, you aren't going to sell well. But sales at B&N are steadily picking up.

And yes, Amazon is banning incest titles, it's true. Bestiality as well. And not just from self-pubbed authors. Across the board. I posted in the other thread about it.

I just found out that I am on their hit list, Amazon notified me this morning that "The Mothers Sins" has been deleted from their data base. I clearly state that all characters are of the age of consent, but that doesn't seem to matter. I could understand it if incest stories were against the law but they aren't. Anyway, I'm expecting to hear from them again in the near future as I still have another six stories concerning incest on their site.

Happy New Year to you all.

I agree about e books but the new Nook Color is very impressive. I was at the Phoenix airport a couple of weeks ago and a woman setting next to me showed me hers. It really got my and my wife's attention.

When we got to PA we went to the local B&N store and wife got her Xmas present. The Nook reader is about the same size as my Kindle but the screen is maybe 20% larger & of course has color also it's a bit heavier. Very good for reading magazines and other periodicals with color images.

My wife thinks it could work pretty well in place of an iPad with some software changes. New Apps will be be coming out within a few months so we may well see.

Selena-Kit has it exactly right about B&N's crappy search engine. It really sucks. She is also very correct in that if you can't find it you can't/won't buy it. B&N needs to fix it.

While I was at the B&N store they sold 2 B&W Nooks and 2 Nook Colors all within maybe 20 min. This was a couple of days after Xmas with no discounts.

I have had my Kindle for about 6 months and really like it. But B&N has a really nice head start in the color arena. So depending on what you wish to do with your reader may well determine which reader you decide to buy. B&N has made some pretty good deals with various periodical publishers to ether purchase individual issues or to subscribe at a very reduced rates. i.e. National Geographies is $2.00 a month or $5.00 for a single issue.

Also the Nook Colors ability to download PDF and other document files from a PC is very easy vs. the rather convoluted method required by the Kindle. This in and of itself could be a real winner for B&N.

While I doubt B&N will be able to make serious inroads into Amazons book sales they may do pretty well in the magazine/periodical arena.

Just one more comment on Nook Color vs. Kindle. My Kindle has 2GB of memory. The Nook color has 8GB with an additional Mini SD 32GB card slot. Since they say an GB of memory can hold 1000 books I doubt I will ever have a problem.

OH yeah. Wife made sure I knew the new toy was for both of us. So far I have just touched it maybe 3 times. <LOL>

Apparently you missed a previous thread here on this, started a week or two ago. Amazon is taking down all books/stories involving incest. Doesn't matter whether incest stories are against the law or not. This is a case of the Golden Rule - he who has the gold makes the rules. It's Amazon's gold, and they've declared incest books and stories a no-no in their baliwick.
