Safe Haven (closed)

James was resting in his chair, nursing some brandy. He wanted to reach for the remote to actually turn on the TV to mindlessly watch something, but he was simply too tired. The day had been quite long. It had been fairly easy, even with the guys shooting at him. That part was actually easy, The car chase was fun. That part was easy too. But the guy he had to protect, he apparently talked when he got nervous, and he was really nervous, what with the people shooting at him and the car chase. He simply never seemed to shut up the entire time. That is what was so exhausting.

As the phone beeped, he glanced over it and reluctantly retrieved it. One text message letting him know he had a voice mail. The voice mail wasn't for this phone though, it was an entirely different number. He read what the voice mail said, and didn't believe it. He called, wanting to hear the voice himself and not just read the words.

Cassidy. He hadn't though of her in quite a long while. He had given her that number in case she ever needed anything and he meant it. Filled with energy again he called her back, waiting to see if she would answer.

James heard the angry man on the phone. He now briefly understood her level of danger. "This is James from the RX Pharmacy, I was looking to speak with Cassidy." He keeps his voice calm with a bit of trepidation. If she was in trouble, he didn't want her getting into even more trouble. Playing the simple answer will many times be the most plausible.

James heard the phone click without ant kind of answer. He stared at it for a few seconds and then made his way to the computer. Tracking a phone was usually not difficult, and since it appeared to not even be a burner phone, getting an address for the owner was even easier.

It was two hours away driving. James shook his head, so close and yet so far. He went to his room and grabbed his away bag. It was prepacked and always ready to travel.

He headed to the car, brought up his GPS and began to drive.

As he arrived at the house, he debated his next course of action. He studied it for a bit. It was then that he got the text message.

James texted back, "In town, close to your address where to meet you?"

"Waller Park" James read the text again, and typed it into his GPS. He started driving before the GPS had finished "Locating satellites." Within a few additional seconds it was already giving him directions.

The directions took him to the front of the park. He drove around until he found a place to park by the play area. He stopped the car, looking around for anyone. Finally he speaks out, "Cassidy?" Hoping she would be around close.

James Wrapped his arms around Cassidy. He held her tightly to him, the time spent apart all meaningless and only this moment was important. He had briefly seen her face, and he wasn't entirely sure, but it did look to be bruised, like someone had punched her. But for the moment he simply held her to him.

As his body pressed against her, to let her know she was safe, he finally was able to ask, "so what happened and how can I help?"

James saw the look on her face and the face her way looked. His blood boiled as three different scenarios of how to get rid of Thomas went through his mind. Each worse than the last one, and each much more painful to him. James brought his hand to Cassidy's chin. "We can get out of here now, is there anything you need to get or can we just leave?"

James let his fingers caress her cheek. He looked into her eyes and saw the hurt in them. He simply nodded for it is was all he could do. He hugged her tightly again, whispering in her ear. "Hop in the car."

He opened the car door for her, closing it after she got in. Then he made his way to the driver side, started the car up and began to drive. He was silent at the beginning as he simply drove through the town, watching as signal after signal turned green for him. He was tempted to drive out of town, but he wasn't sure if that was necessary yet.

Finally he saw it, a parking garage as he pulled into it. He wound the car round and round until they reached the top of the garage, giving them both a good view of the city.

James simply sat there. As Cass began to talk and then stopped and then start again. He took her hand in his, "Well a bit shaken, but you still look so very lovely." As she began to talk and the not and began again. "There is really nothing you need to explain if you do not want to, you needed help and now here I am."

He gazes out onto the cityscape, "Say the word and I start the car and we start driving. I can have you anywhere else is any amount of time."

James reached over and gave the poor girl a hug, "Then we leave." He said. "We can start driving and as we go we can decide what we need to do next." He moves his hand to rest on her leg. "First town we stop in and we can find you a few changes of clothes." He starts up the car again, and begins to drive to get out of town. He wasn't concerned about which way they left town, directions can be changed on the way.

"You did the right thing by calling me. I can get this problem fixed for you." He smiled over at her, "and you may always call me for any problem."

James drove down the highway, watching as the lights zipped by them. They didn't have the radio on at the moment, as he simply listened to Cassidy as she spoke. She had lots to work though in her mind, and speaking it aloud always helped.

But it was her question that finally jolted him from his own quiet. He glanced over at her, seeing how sexy she looked even with everything that had happened. "Do I ever think about what?" He said, being a bit coy about his answer. She knew the truth.
