Sadness

Oh God, I'm so sorry. I know exactly how you feel. I thought I was going to have to put one of mine down last week because he couldn't walk and I was heart broken all day until I found out he was all right. My heart goes out to you. :rose:

Dogs are family.

It's never easy losing a loved one, but especially not when we lose something we love who has loved us back with such uncondictional affection. I'm very sorry for your loss, Earl.

"In order to really enjoy a dog, one doesn't merely try to train him to be semihuman; The point of it is to open oneself to the possibility of becoming partly a dog." - Edward Hoagland

It sounds as though Tikka had you well trained. Beautiful.

Thank you all for your posts; you guys have helped no end. I appreciate you all.

One piece of comfort that's helped me is something our old-time vet and animal-lover told me once: that animals don't know they're dying. We do. It's our curse as human beings to know what death is and know that it's coming for each of us, but animals don't know, and to them it's just another sleep. They die, but they don't fear death like we do.

Sorry to sound ungracious, but I have to speak my mind on these things or I'm gonna explode.

I really hate that thought. I've lost three dogs from old age by having to take them to the vets. They all trusted us, as a family, implicitly. I know that we did the right thing for all of them as they would've been in pain otherwise, but it still hurts so much to think that they trusted us and didn't know what was going to happen.

I'm sorry; I know that's a fucked-up reaction to have, but it's how I feel. Thank you for the rest of the post though; helped a lot.

The Earl
