Well I dont think a true sadist is someone who acts without consent, I would more or less say those who go outside the boundaries of what is considered proper within BDSM aren't just mere sadist and have become actual criminals i would say.

I'll admit I have sadistic tendencies and like to use it to spice up the play...

Forget the semantics. Repose the question: are there people who enjoy hurting? Answer, of course! And for every one of them, there is another who enjoys being hurt. Sexually, for the most part.
