Imagine my surprise, watching the 1954 film with my favorite actress, Audrey Hepburn, the venerable Bumphrey Hogart and the cad, William Holden, (who also did "Breezy"), that I enjoyed also.
A multi millionaire, with all the money in the world, as his brother said, why do you want more money?
"I don't, it isn't the money, I hardly notice it." (I paraphrase)
Then you do it for the power, the control over people! (again, I paraphrase, but accurately)
"No, not at all."
"Then what?"
"You don't understand, do you, the introduction of a new product. The buildings and factories that will go up, the roads and homes and schools and libraries that will be built. People who have never had a dime, now have a dollar. No, it isn't the power or the money, it is making things that are useful, that people want, that add comfort and luxury to their lives..."
Since I just heard this and the movie is still running and I don't want to bother with a script...that is all just as I remember hearing.
Usually films, old or new, run down business, corporations, the free market in general...so as I said, Imagine my surprise to hear those lines from Bogart's lips...
such a deal!
