S/Os, LOL and ABS...

strange thread i know but...
i keep getting almightily confused by the shorthand used.
Is there any chance that this thread could operate as dictionary?
That said if there is already a dictionary of wonderful acronymns then could somebody please point me in its apporximate direction?

S/O = significant other
LOL = laugh out loud
ABS = Advanced/Antilock Breaking System (you never know when u might need it!)

I find the easiest way to deal with annoying acronyms is to avoid the people using them. One acronym here or there doesn't put me off much, but the people whose messages turn into long strings of letters just aren't putting enough effort into communicating.

I know I was looking at a "DH" for ten minutes this morning before I remembered my own rule about ignoring puzzling acronyms and stopped sitting there mystified. I've been told since that "Dear Husband" was probably meant and that a lot of homemaker types online use it. I have no idea why the person would have assumed that I knew that one, which gets back to my point about the compusive acronym users just not putting enough time, effort and thought into expressing themselves.
