Thank-you. I do breezy rather well, if I may say so myself, but anything expressing genuine emotion requires months of work . . . and help . . . and seven editors!

My sainted grandmama loved her Italian licorice flavored grappa. Just can't get excited over licorice. Not even cough drops.

Except for sweet anise. Now that is some good flavoring in a beef stew.

Well, I sweetened this a bit.

The winery/distillery down the road makes a grappa that's quite good, too. :)

Back in Frankfurt am Main I had a sergeant who was married to a Turkish belly dancer. He introduced the young sprouts (this was a loooooong time ago) in the office to ouzo. No, Sarah, Zoot did you a grand service convincing you not to drink it. Ghastly stuff.
 
There aren't many alcoholic beverages I like to let sit on my tongue. This is one of 'em.

I do that with vintage port. The best thing I ever drank was an 1848 Madeira Boal. The waiter and I had been chatting about these basically immortal wines that are so underappreciated that you can pick up incredibly old bottles at auction for a (comparative) song and when the finest steak dinner I ever ate was over, he brought out this bottle and a large stemmed thimble. All I had to do was take a sniff and life was complete. I could have happily died right then, 'cause it was never going to get any better. Sigh Ah, the memories.
 
any one had rum from barbados? Smooth stuff with fruit punch.... don't much taste the rum.. but it nocks ya for a loop!
