For those of you who give a shit

Ryder Cup starts tomorrow

3 days of pure drama

US vrs Europe

Its going to be great - glued to the telly for 3 days

If you have to ask what the fuck is the Ryder Cup then you probably wont be interested

Go Europe lets kick Tigers ass !!:D

Now hold on there a sec........

Very exciting stuff the Ryder Cup. The one golf event that non golf watchers will watch if it is close on Sunday.

I was just reading the strengths and weakness of the teams yesterday, the gamesmanship that goes on, the thoughts behind the matchup's etc., etc., etc. Great stuff.

I'm hoping ESPN radio is going to carry it as I might have to spend the afternoon driving.

I'm rooting for the entire USA team except for Duval, (sniveling little shit). Also wouldn't mind seeing Monty fall flat on his face.

Monty is not very popular here also - but as a fellow Scot and as he comes from Troon which is very close to my home town he gets all the support from me

He has been a great golfer though - but never made it in the US - he should have won at least two US Opens but was very unlucky. You guys were also very tough on him

Do you think the rest of the team secretly want Tiger to fuck up ? He has been a bit of a prima donna already and Curtis had to reprimand him

Nothing like the Ryder Cup.
Europe v USA.
No prize money, just honour.
Given the tense atmosphere between EU/US this year on a political level, I'm sure we're in for a hell of a Cup.

Go Europe. Go Bjørn!

Monty is a great golfer and I agree he could have had to US Opens but I'd say it is every might as much from bad luck as it is from his lack of mental toughness. And really Gord, we just want the guy to feel at home, I'm sure he was the kid that everyone picked on in school. We figure if we make him feel at home he'll do better. ;)

I don't think that the team wants Tiger to fail, they are smarter than that. The media sources I read don't convey that thought process either, but then how important is he? He has a losing Ryder Cup record already.

I miss Seve. I really like the competitive fires of Torrence and Strange.

Yes I agree there is something about Monty - probably the killer touch- but you dont win the tournaments and be no1 European golfer for 7 straight years without having something. I think he has had his best yeras now and will never get the major he craves

The point about Tiger is that he is so dominant amongst his fellow pros that I am sure there is some deep dark thought processes going on that says hope we win but hope he has a shit Ryder Cup !!

Slamming Sam - is another Ayrshire lad like Monty - he is from Largs on the Coast - great guy. The sort of guy you would want to go for a beer with - wears his heart on his sleave and a real competitor

Thomas is really fired up about the Ryder Cup - I saw him being interviewed in Ireland last week and he wants it very bad.

Great golfer - he is the non resident pro in Dubai - lives there has a gorgeous wife , pots of cash and plays golf all year

Fuck I HATE HIM :D :D

There might be some underlying thoughts like that, but I think I'd be worried if those types of thoughts are the "norm". Hate him or like him Tiger is without a doubt the best in the world right at the moment.

You could tell that about Sam from his TV shots, ya can just tell when I guy would be cool to have a beer and bs about sports, I think Curtis is the same way.

Coolville, thanks for the link, in case I can't get it on the radio today at least I will be able to immediately access what I missed rather than waiting as the TV teases me with the info.

I'm beginning to think that Phil M. is our Monty.

PhilM is probably just unlucky that he is playing golf in the same era as Tiger - he does have a great short game and goes for everything - he always has the sort of round like 5 birdies an eagle 4 bogies and a double - great for match play as he can blow you away in a few holes - I dont think he will loose much.

On paper it looks a bit bleak for us as we have so many people out of form , Lee W , Daren C , Philip Price etc. They have done nothing this year and would not get into the team on current form. But who knows the Ryder Cup might just ive them the spark they need - the pairings are going to be very interesting

I think you throw all that stuff out the window. This is an event that goes beyond all reason, like the final game of the World Cup and the Olympics, even the Little League World Series had stuff that you just can't explain. Do I think that everyone is going to have a great tourney, no, but I do think that you'll see the Westwoods, Clarks and the Calc's, Sutton's of the golfing world come up big at points during the event.

Off to work for me, enjoy!

YAAAA... I am excited. I hope the event is at least half as exciting as the last Ryder Cup. :D

It will be for sure - last time was mental as we only needed four points in the singles - but couldnt get them - just to see the match being pulled away

It was excrutiating - but great drama and as a sporting event it must be right up there

As you can see I am getting very excited

I was fortunate enough to attend the 1999 ryder cup at the Country Club. It was an awesome experience!

These guys are fired up for this event. It's not like a regular tournament where it's every man for himself, this is for their countries and is truly a TEAM event. They're rooting for each other all the way. To suggest that they would want to see a fellow team mate go into the tank is absurd. As was the case in 1999, it nearly came down to the last match (Payne and Monty), so every win is important.

On a side note, Tiger has played less than great in past ryder cups, but I think this will be a great tourney for him. Wow, that's really going out on a limb, eh?

Go USA!

No you are probably right about Tiger and his team mates - I just had a sneaky thought that there might be something there - but probably not - I think Tiger will do well as the Belfry is geared up to his game - he can drive the 10th 5 times if he wants to and blow the opposition away

BTW was Paine in the 99 match at Brookline ? - I thought he had died earlier - or am I getting mixed up ?

acitore_vuli said:

Yeah, he was in the last match on sunday with Monty, remember he conceded the match because he didn't want to make Monty putt, because the crowd was so fired up?

I think Payne's death was in late oct, early nov.

Yes your right - he died in October 99 - just after Brookline

Cardiff/newport are having it in a couple of years time. woohoo
