The Russian Federation is home to over 80 recognized ethno-national groups who live in relative peace, harmony, and mutual respect.

Compare this to the US where a generally much more homogenous population (the biggest differences among Americans tend to be skin color hues and continental ancestry origins) increasingly hate each other, bicker constantly, and call each other names on social media, with violent ethnic incidents on all sides making headlines on a regular basis.

In the US, the electorate is deeply divided on racial and ethnic lines while in the RF, the ruling United Russia party draws support from across the ethnic spectrum, polling especially strongly among ethnic minorities.

Instead of promulgating ridiculous Russophobic conspiracy theories and hysteria we could actually learn a lot about how to have a better country by studying Russia's example.

The Kremlin, which has waged a massive disinformation campaign aimed at legitimizing Russia's annexation of Crimea and support for separatists in eastern Ukraine, has employed so-called "troll armies" to invade online territories armed with pro-Moscow rhetoric.

A June article by Max Seddon of BuzzFeed reported the Kremlin was spending millions of dollars to pay English-speaking Russians to promote President Vladimir Putin and his policies in U.S. media like Fox News broadcasting and The Huffington Post and Politico news sites. Trolls are reportedly expected to manage multiple fake accounts and post on news articles 50 times a day, often with sentiments as simplistic as "Putin makes Obama look stupid and weak!"

Compare this to the US where a generally much more homogenous population (the biggest differences among Americans tend to be skin color hues and distant continental ancestry origins) increasingly hate each other, bicker constantly, and call each other names on social media, with violent ethnic incidents on all sides making headlines on a regular basis.

Indeed.
Why is that, tho? I don't know much about history, but wasn't the US founded upon a violent collonial past ? All of it accellerated within a short timespan, so those ethnic groups didn't have time to accomodate to each other.
And compared to other former brittish collonies, american massmedia and politicians seem to intentionally magnify those religious, ethnic and political splits.

Because they might be quite split and extremists when it comes to those three areas, but most americans that I came across IRL were in fact much more laid back and tolerant than people of other nationalities. Quite a paradox.

Instead of promulgating ridiculous Russophobic conspiracy theories and hysteria we could actually learn a lot about how to have a better country by studying Russia's example.

Contrary to the english mainstream view, russians aren't just a horde of uneducated people with violent or imperislistic tendencies. They have one of the richest and most sophisticated cultures in the world.

Tell that to the Chechnyans or Georgians. Russian expansion beyond the Moscow region is a history of Imperialist expansion, defensive wars against the Mongols and attempts to reclaim the Ukraine.

The Ukraine is the original heartland of the Russians. The Scandinavian Rus' established an empire/kingdom back in the 9th and 10th century. Only to be driven north to Moscow by invading Mongols. Crimean Tartars are descended from those Mongol invaders. The Rus' and succeeding Russians fought hard for control of the Crimea with it's ice free access to the Black Sea. It was given to the Ukraine when the USSR was thought to be a safe entity in many of our life time. It is far too strategic for Russia to give up to a foreign possibly hostile or West leaning power.

Much separation and conflict occurs when different languages are spoken. The Crimea and eastern Ukraine are pre-dominantly Russian speaking. Not surprising that they look towards Moscow more than Kiev.

I'm sure that Russia has been looking for an excuse to re-annex the Crimea since the breakup of the USSR. Internal unrest, probably encouraged by Moscow, in the Ukraine was it's opening.

Not overly peaceful at times. But India is a hell of an example of holding together various ethnic groups. India has more languages than Europe does.

Canada has done well to keep Quebec with it's French speakers within the federation. Taken a lot of bending over backwards and forwards to do it though. Earlier in history, fear of annexation by the US kept Quebec loyal to the Crown. Now there is enough of what separatists call the 'ethnic vote' to perhaps keep Quebec with the federation. Last separatist vote was a bit too close for comfort. Without Quebec the Maritimes become isolated from the rest of Canada. And the St. Lawrence becomes a Quebec waterway.

The Russian's prime grand strategic goal is the reunification of the USSR under the rubric of Eurasianism. Towards the end of the Chechen War they managed to get one the main Chechen warlords to appear in Moscow to announce before a conference at the Russian "West Point" that Chechens would henceforth be happy to exist in eurasian brotherhood with the Russians, in the little-brother role of course.

"Nationalities living in peace and harmony" in the former USSR looks a lot like a thermobaric weapon going off over a shell-torn cityscape.

It always amuses me to see people from former brittish collonies pointing the finger at Russia's imperialistic tendencies.
Rusdia's the latest and most trendy boogeyman, apparently

Its actually 185, though many of those are small...

And all of 'em get along in relative peace, harmony and mutual respect?

Not to mention Russia has a YUUUUUUGE longtime alcohol problem with its population and not everybody is a happy drunk...yeah, all those groups are a regular Get-Along-Gang! :D

Also invite you to YouTube some Russian dashboard cam videos of traffic accidents — there's lots of 'em — and see how they "get along" after they get out of their vehicles.
