I was shocked to find out how many Russian oligarchs have assets in the UK.

I'm not referring to them taking their Russian money there, I'm referring to them actually owning and making money out of land or football clubs from the UK and other Western countries, just like Mohamad Al Fayed.
And that Chinese were about to make big takeovers in the UK, until some uk/us organizations started blowing the whistle.

Conversely, I was stunned to find out how easy and cheap it is for Brits. to buy land in Italy, Southern France and Spain.

That was a bit reminiscent of Fiji to me, where offshore corporations, not Fijians own land & make money out of tourism.

They have done in the past to try to persuade Putin NOT to invade, and for Putin to pull out of Ukraine, as had the French President and the German Chancellor. They now know they were wasting their time and effort. Putin was going to invade anyway, no matter what anyone said to him. They had repeated assurances from Putin that the Russian forces were on exercises, not preparing to invade. Those statements were not worth the paper they weren't written on.

Putin doesn't want to hear criticism from anyone.
